View Full Version : years later...

It's been about 2 years since my initial diagnosis of viral labyrinthitis/inner ear damage. Yet I still can't walk up and down stairs without holding the railing. Sometimes I feel ok, sometimes I feel awful, but it's always when I move my head. Sleeping and watching TV are fine for me.

My question is, could my initial diagnosis have been incorrect? Does it sound like I have Meneire's or something more long lasting? I do not get violent spins or vomiting, I just get the woozy feelings. Once every few months I get these weird attacks where I shiver and have uncontrollable stomach problems. Initially I thought they were anxiety attacks, but they seem quite severe lately. Of course I thought "sounds like MS" but my MRI from 2 years ago showed no signs of it.

The doctor always tells me do your vestibular exercises, do your exercises, do your exercises. And I do sometimes. But it's not enough anymore.

Meclizine does not help me.

hi im fairly new around here and just read your post so forgive me if i am asking questions already asked....lol...i have had ETD for about 4 years now, it comes and goes....do you think you can see another doctor for a diagnosis? I know what you are going thru on the panic attacks....do you take meds for them? My friend mentioned the Meclizine, did it work for u at first, my dizzy spells here lately have been out of control. I work at a computer all day and it doesnt help..... :)

i hope you get to feeling better.... :D

I work at a computer and it stinks. I've been thinking about going to nursing school partyly so I can get away from it!

Meclizine and those drugs never helped and I'm not sure why. They did put me on Zoloft which usually helps the anxiety but not the dizziness.

It was so hard to find an autoneurologist and it took over a year to properly diagnose me (can you imagine!), I don't even want to go through the testing/diagnosis hell that I went through before. Basically I want to know the autoneurologist could have underestimated my damage.

Hi Loralei

...."could my initial diagnosis have been incorrect?"....

Hard to say---but would not be unusual for that to happen---or that the initial injury healed---but---weakened the inner ear structure---which can result in BPPV occurring----have u looked at the BPPV posting or tried the MEP also posted there(sticky)?

Wonderful, I'll try the MEP. It's worth a shot. My regular rehab exercises just aren't helping anymore.
