View Full Version : restrictions after 2 level fusion

One year ago my son had a 2 level fusion with rod and screws. He has been out of work because his job (greenhouse worker) involved a lot of heavy lifting, turning and twisting. He is not on Workmen's Comp because his spondylolisthesis was congenital.

I'm wondering what types of limitations other patients have received from their doctors. One doctor told my son that he cannot do that type of labor because it might compromise the levels above the fusion. His surgeon said he should be able to do just about anything.

So, I'd like to hear how you all weigh in on this and what you have all been told.

Dan, what were you told? My son was told 2 different things so I'm not sure which one you were told. Thanks.

Hello,
I just had L4-S1 fusion 8 weeks ago for grade 2 spondy. I have been following your sons story as it is very similar to mine. I woke up with left leg pain that I did not have before and now have extreme burning and sensitivity in my left foot and toes. I have been waiting for you to come on so I could ask you if his leg pain went away and if his sensisitivity went away. I know he was on neurotin. Is he still on that?

I am very interested in your responce as my post op is identical to his as far as the new leg pain and burning and sensitivity. I am hoping this will go away. At times the burning and sensitivity is too much and vert extreme. I cant answer your current question as I havnt even been released to drive yet  Thanks for your time.

My son's right leg problem was from one of the screws hitting a nerve the neurosurgeon said. That is why they decided to operate again, 11 days after the first surgery, to adjust the screw. He didn't notice improvement immediately but it did go away in time. It's hard to remember how long it lasted, but if I were to guess I'd say a few months. Neurontin didn't help at all. He described his discomfort exactly as you describe yours. I hope you will soon notice a difference for the better.
