Hi to all!! Ok, I am not sure if I am depressed or not. I get into these little "tiffs" like every other week. I don't want to talk to people (they easily upset me ie. make me mad) After a day of thinking about it, it is really over something stupid. But while in this "tiff" I think about all the negative things in my life...not liking work, wanting to finish school, but not knowing what to do or how to do it, bills, debt. Sigh. I start crying. Seems like I always cry. My husband says he has his days too when he gets "depressed" I don't like where I am at, or what I am doing, but don't think I am depressed. My doctor said he could give me something. I am not sure if this be the case. I just want to know what everyones intake is on this. Depression, anxiety? Please advise. Thanks a bunch. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi,
I believe it is depression. I also post on the stress/anxiety section so you might want to check that out to find out more about anxiety. The other symptoms, the crying and all are signs of depression. You dont have to feel depressed or crying all the time to be diagnosed with depression...i have PTSD/anxiety/panic/and severe depression diagnosed after a head injury and i have a good day every now and again. If you dont like how you are feeling then tell that to your doc...if you dont want to take meds then maybe see a psychologist who are the docs who listen and help with depression and all but cant prescribe meds. The best of luck to you and I hope things work out.
Take care,

If your doctor is willing to give you something, ask him to give you councelling!
Try to do some talk therapy before going to the pills.
And yes, you sound like you MAY have depression. But try the talking stuff first!
Good luck...

Laura,
It does sound as if you have depression. I often felt angry/frustrated (*grins* I still do sometimes) at the tiny things.
I agree with Thickman that you should consider counseling first, as it goes to the root of your depression: your thoughts and feelings. A form of therapy that I found really helpful and beneficial is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. This form of therapy looks at your thoughts and how they contribute to your depression. Through this therapy, you are encouraged to challenge your thoughts, change them to something more manageable, and, in that way, reduce your depression. It was really helpful for me...and continues to be (as I still use it, even though I no longer attend the therapy sessions) http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif.
I wish you lots of success http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif. Keep us posted.

It's your thoughts that are getting you down. Anyone who has seen my posts here knows I'm a big supporter of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) I suffered for years and was on meds but once I found CBT my life changed in a matter of weeks and was off meds and have never looked back. It's all based on getting your thoughts down on paper and finding any errors (There are 10 common thinking errors people make)in your thoughts. Once you find them they are easy to refute and you feel more positive almost instantly. Pick up a copy of "Been there Done that Do This" to get a good overview of CBT from a guy who suffered before he found it. I think it would help you a great deal... Good Luck.
