I don't know if each state is different, but in VA they changed the rules several years ago and stopped awarding for ADHD as a rule. Unless you could prove that with therapy and medication etc., the child could not participate in activities that other kids his/her age could.

My son had ADHD all his youth. He saw the therapist, had the IEP's and behaior therapy and took medication. With out those therapies...he wasn't able to do any type of group activities, was failing school (elementry), couldn't make a decision and had lots of anxieties. W/o the therapies, he'd be able to qualify for disability (but who would want that for their child).

When the rules changed, if you did not try the therapies, you wouldn't be considered for disability...if you did try the therapies and they worked, you wouldn't be qualified. If you did try all the options and they still did not work...they would consider it...but still they had to find that the child was missing out on a majority of normal chilrden activities.

Good luck,
Lorie
