ever since i was young ive had a heart murmer, my doctor said so. and every once and awhile i get a weird feeling in my chest with my heart pumping. its kina like a realy long pump for a few seconds and my breathing gets weird then it just goes away no harm done, just scares me. well lately this has been happening to me a few times a week. its really hard to describe the feeling. i have a feeling its nothing but it scares me sometimes.
This happens to me too, 1 - 3 times every other day or so. It may or may not be related to a heart murmur, which I too have been diagnosed with, it's pretty common in our family. I am 20 years old now and it started when I was about 12 - 13. They scare me too. I sometimes respond violently by taking in a deep breath and holding or hitting my chest. My doctors tell me it's normal and caused by elevated worry and anxiety - stress. I try to believe this because I havent dropped dead yet so  .
They vary in intensity and sometimes occur when I hyperventilate, jump, or lie in a certain position. They most often occur before, during and after stressful situations, intense emotions and occasionally (in my case) after strenuous physical activity, usually there is none for a few days and then they re-appear later. Sometimes I can feel more subtle details in the "flutters" is what I call them. My heart feels as if it totally missed a beat, I instinctly inhale sharply and the next beat would be either weak or a strong "thhhhud", then after that a fast rhythm for a minute or two.
Stress and anxiety, Lack of sleep, dehydration and many other things can cause them too including underlying heart disease (if you are worried about that see a cardiologist). So far, I have been diagnosed with cardiac syncope, since I am slightly overweight; maybe even moderately obese and therefor out of shape, exercise and a healthy lifestyle will probably decrease symptoms.
If you are stressed out and anxious, out of shape etc. try improving those things by eating right and exercising. Exercise is good for both BUT CHECK WITH YOUR DOC FIRST :D.

i have this too...right around my period...like a long skipped beat then my heart goes back to normal rhythm...i had them a lot after my son was born...i thought i was the only one that have them...it's hard to describe...but it does feel like a really long pump...it does scare me but the doctor never said i
had a heart murmer...i hope that's not what it is...
We're never alone when it comes to experiencing symptoms. A lot of people experience skipped beats and flutters, they happen in all of our hearts but some of us never notice them and some dont worry about them. Dont worry, it doesnt mean you have a murmur and it doesnt always mean you have a heart problem. Skipped beats can occur any time for any reason, harmless in most cases but not all.

Yeah you're right...my boyfriend gets them but doesn't care about them at all...flutters and skipped beats...me I just focuss on them too much and it makes them much worse... :)
Me too. I worried about them too much until they caused panic attacks, they lead me to believe I was going to have a heart attack, which was not likely to happen because I had a battery of tests done and major heart defects had been ruled out. I sat down one day and realized I needed to calm the heck down before I drove myself nuts. Calling the paramedics, doctors and hearing them all say I was ok and needed to control my anxiety, I decided to try hard to not worry. It's VERY important to learn to control your stress and anxiety, because when we're past age 50 our chances of having a heart attack or stroke are high especially if we havent been watching our diets and exercising. Best thing to do when you feel a flutter is to do something you enjoy very much.
