Its been since Sept 2, 03 since I have been off of Zoloft and the past week has been ROTTEN! I try to sleep but cant. Last night we layed down at 10:30 and i was still tossing at 3:30 am. I finally got to sleep around 4ish then I had to get up at 6. The sad part it that when I wake up i cant go back to sleep. I dont feel tired, but im exhausted! If anyone has had this and knows what to do i would appreciate any feed back
THANKS

Did you taper off? I am on 50mg zoloft and thinking of stopping, as it has not helped me now for 5 months. I was on Paxil yrs ago and had the worst time stopping, even with tapering! Can you get any sleeping pills to help? I take dalmane sometimes and it really helps me. Good luck!

Don't worry; some things in life throw the sleep cycle off, like stress or medications, but the sleep cycle will instictively return in time...it may take awhile so patience is important. Adding more strong chemicals like sleeping pills while this process is going on may delay it.

Since this happened after Zoloft discontinuation, it's obvious what the cause is, however, might be good to rule out such things as thyroid/hormone/blood sugar causes, so get a physical, for peace of mind of anything. If that's ok, be patient...take non-addictive things like chammomile teas(double bagged) and calcium supplements before bed. I've heard OTC antihistamines like benedryl and dramamine are not addictive and can help.

Chemicals like benzodiazepines and antidepressants have a profound effect on sleep cycles and can mess things up for awhile.

I haven't taken anything for the insomnia, I was concerned about becomming addicted to Benadryl or something else. I hope my natural sleep comes back, its aweful. I use to think ppl were nuts not being able to sleep, as my usualy pattern is go to bed around 11 or so fall asleep and get up at 7 with alot of effert. I love my sleep, i can even take naps at work (hour lunch) and this just boggles my mind not being able to sleep. My family is suprised becuz im normally the last out of bed on sat (11ish) now im up at 6 or 7 wide awake.....DRIVES ME CRAZY!
I will try nyquil or benadryl tonight.
Thanks for the replies

If you are no longer depressed you could also try valerian root. Don't take it everyday, because it may bring the depression back. But taken once per week (especially before an important presentation/exam/etc) it really helps. The tea smells bad, so I recommend the pills.
