My doctor just started me on Welbutrin (starting the 300 mg. tomorrow) since I had gained so much weight on the Lexapro, plus I don't think it did anything for me. Now, I've heard and read Welbutrin doesn't make you gain weight, can perk you up a bit instead of making you tired, help with quitting smoking, no bad sexual side affects, plus a few more things. Can anyone who is taking Welbutrin or has had experience with this drug, please tell me how long it takes to feel anything from this drug. I haven't felt anything and it bothers me sort of. I suffer from depression and anxiety/panic. I guess I'm just expecting too much is all. Please let me know. Thanks

i gained weight on lexapro too and so i switched to welbutrin. it is nice to know that other people had the same problem with lexapro because i was thinking that i was the only one. I feel so much better on welbutrin. i do not have much of an appetite but i have lost some weight, it does not effect my sex drive, and i am sleeping a bit better, i am still a bit anxious and sometimes a little sad about things but i can handle it - it is not out of control. sometimes it takes a little while for your body to get use to a new drug. i think it took a good 2 weeks for me to really feel better. maybe try to give it 2 weeks and then see how you feel. just a thought.

Hi Purrsia
Please hang in there with the wellbutrin. It took five weeks for it to kick in for me. I am also taking effexor and trazodone. Nothing was working for me until I started the wellbutrin. I feel great now. I am losing weight and have more energy and concentration. Sometimes the meds take a while. I think the average time is 4 to 6 weeks.
The only side effect I had was some anxiety for the first two weeks. After that it went away.
Good luck with it.

Most anti-depressants can take from 2 to 6 weeeks to fully kick-in. I have read that some kick in faster, but I also think it depends on the person, so give it some time. I tried wellbutrin for smoking & it didn't help for that.

Im on wellbutrin. Twice. It does help with weight loss. I hardy eat on it. Its not like i don't get hungry. But when i got to try to eat my stomache kinda feels full. And nothing looks good. But this more mild. I lost 20 pounds. Im sure it works differently on everyone though. As for the depression. It made me feel somewhat better. But i also still get depressed on it. I was at 300mg. They took me off. And then later put me on again. But at 150mg. Don't ask me the reasoning for this. But im proably going to need over 300, b/c even the last time it didn't seem effective enough. I don't have any sexual or other side effect. The only one i have had. Was headaches but they went away after the 1st week. They will proably come back again when i get increase. Also i have sleep apnea. Which leave me with horrible exhaustion beyond words. The frist day i took it. It competely went away. But after looking on the internet i found out why. Its also used for chroinic fatugie symdrome.

WOW - you sound exactly like me - the Wellbutrin has caused anxiety, headaches, light sensivity - (bad)and sometimes just breathing gets on my nerves. I found when I feel the cranky side effect I just leave my house and do something. The problem with that is that on sunny days the sun REALLY bothers me. I'm on my 2nd week of Wellbutrin and so far I am not benefiting from it and am really trying to get past the side effects (which I'm sure are mild compared to other things) I just keep telling myself that I am lucky to have what problems I do have as there are far worse out there. But I still want to throw a fit here and there. I have MAJOR problems with sleeping more than 1 hour at night so I hope this helps that also. Does anyone know if they sleep better after taking this medication? Thanks for these boards - can't complain to anyone in my life - although I know I am a different person on Wellbutrin and not to happy with her right now. GOOD LUCK to you!

Can Wellbutrin be taken at night to relieve some of the side-effects?

Wellbutrin at night can really mess up your sleep. It can cause insomnia and it is recommended that you take your last dose no later then 4 or 5 pm.
