Hi all- I've got a question about IR. I was seeing my gyno onbase at the military hospital and he wanted to see if i was IR so he sent me to the lab. I got my blood drawn then went home and ate a specific meal (it consisted of eggs, toast, milk and something else too I think). Two hours after beginning my meal, I went back to the lab to get my blood drawn again.
I've since started seeing a new doctor off base and he told me that my military doc ordered the wrong test. Is that true? Is my military doctor THAT incompetent? My new doc is going to test me for it at my next appointment. What should I expect?
Also, if one is insulin resistant, what is it like? What are the symptoms? Thanks all for reading and replying :)

Hello
I to was referred off base because this hospital only tests for a limited amount of things. I just did the IR on Fri. What you will have to do is fast 3 hours before the test so I recomend that you go first thing in the morning. The test is 3 hours long and you will get your blood drawn every hour. The initial set is the worst because it's alot of tubes (mine was 12.) After the first set you will have to drink a foul drink. It tastes like flat orange soda loaded with sugar. It wasn't bad at first but after getting all that blood taken and fasting, I had to fight a little to keep it down. Then you will wait and get your blood drawn 3 more times on the hour. You may not have that many tubes because I think I was getting more tests done. Good Luck and bring reading material! :bouncing:
