I have SVT. A bunch of people here do. Is your son on medication or are they discussing ablation or anything?

I've SVT too. I've been fixed 20 years ago. Cardio said the whole lot is called "wpw". Now it comes back with A-Fib. Again the whole lot is called "wpw" again. Anyone knows what it means? Is your son's SVT called "wpw" too?

I have not heard of wpw. My son is on propranolol. He will need an operation when he is older but will need it sooner if he keeps going into svt.His heart has been up and down today to the point where i've wandered if i should take him to gp but it has now slowed down.

I was just diagnosed with SVT a few weeks ago. I am not on meds yet, I'm scheduled for an ECG in just over a week. I've been having it since HS, but the palpatations were so infrequent and short, that it didn't bother me so I never had it formally diagnosed, but recently I've been getting them multiple times a day and it's been bothersome.

To fix up the SVT, probably means ablation. It is not an open heart surgery. It is a procedure which carry out in the hospital. Normally over night that I heard other people said. Otherwise, if associated with other complication or valves problems that might need an open heart surgery.

I was on Inderal before I fixed up.

Good luck.

What does it feel like when you are in SVT?

The heart beats and pulse rate were fast, strong, regular and sweat a lot.
If I was on medication, I won't feel pain.

Now I've brady, tachy and Fib. I asked a GP, he told me that all my beats were artifical beats. I'm very upset. I want my natural beats. That's why I can't tell what is what? Sorry.

When I have SVT, my heart does not feel like it's beating regularly most of the time (even though it is, according to the EKG). It feels like my heart has just completely lost its rhythm and and is beating erratically my chest. It's a very menacing feeling. It feels like my heart has forgotten how to beat and that I could die any minute.

After awhile, sometimes I can feel it beating regularly, but VERY quickly. That's also very frightening. It feels out of control and crazy. My whole body is filled with adrenaline and fear. The worst experience of my life, every time it happens.

For most people, all day every day, your heart beats regularly in your chest, responds to your activity level, and rises and falls within reason and when appropriate. So when that steady, intelligent beat suddenly becomes inappropriate in some way, it feels very wrong and very scary.

I find it hard as my son is so young he cant tell me how he is feeling. When he was first diagnosed he was ony 2 weeks old and when he got to hospital and put on the monitor his heart was beating over 300 beats per min and i have no idea how he would have felt with this happening. Now when it happens sometimes he can be completly normal in himself but can go downhill very quickly. He goes in and out of SVT every day but it is only when he stays in it i have to take him to hospital. Can anyone tell me how it affects your everyday life? Do you get more tired than other people? And if you got upset would you go into SVT? It is just that i am noticing my son going into it quite a bit during the day.

Sorry to mention one thing. You can tell from the neck (front right close to the throat) vein. Mine one was jump like an alien. That most dr like to look at the place. If I was naughty (do not let anyone felt my pulse) then they looked at there.

I wouldn't feel any different if I'm upset. It may cause a jump if I'm too happy. Definately will jump and non stop if I had a fever.

Hope it helps.

I always look at my sons neck. I find it is the best place to look. I find it hard to count how fast his heart is beating by looking at his neck but i can certainly tell if its going to fast. Do you know if there is any medical eqipment available to check the speed of the heart at home? I sometimes i seem to be at the hospital to often and if i could check his heart at home more accurately then i would not have to take him to hospital so often.

Try to find out from the blood pressure machine. It recorded heart rate and irregular pulse as well. If not right then check with the Chemist.

Thanks Pika. I never thought of using a blood presure machine. Not sure how i would go about geting 1 for a 3 yr old but it is certainly something i will look into.
