A few nights ago when i was in my room i went out into the kitchen/living room area, and smelled this horrible stuff. couldnt figure it out, and it went away if i went back into my room. the next day i was out getting the mail and trash cans, and i could smell it vaguely while i was outside, but no longer in the house. now a few days later i dont smell it at all, at least not constantly. every so often if im eating something or just smellling something i can smell it again for a brief couple seconds, almost as if i can taste it. now i know your sense of smell and taste are linked, but is it just possible that im smelling this just out of pure memory? or could it be something actually in me that im smelling/tasting. though it doesnt make sense that i only smelled it in certain places for those two days if that were true. any thoughts?

If you smelled it in the kitchen, it wasn't in the other rooms and then outside, maybe it was something in the trash and then someone took the trash outside and it smelled out there. If it was really a NASTY smell, I've done that "smell by memory" type of thing! So it could be that. My cat puked once (a bunch of soured milk and it smelled like HUMAN puke!) after cleaning it up and going out later, I kept getting whiffs of it! I know it wasn't ON me and I washed my hands thoroughly, but some smells just get caught in the brain I think!

it is very possible it couldve been something in the trash. im definitely not liking the smell by memory thing. i guess something like that could exist, though ive never heard of it. hopefully my memory forgets it soon haha.

i know this is going to sound weird....but is anyone in your household on a no carb high protein diet?
ketogenesis takes place in this case, and when being near people on such a diet there is a smell that resembles over ripe fruit....i cannot really explain the smell.

i am not making this up.....a professor actually told me and even brought a chemical to our lecture which consisted of the same amino acid responisble for this smell...

no, no one is on a low carb diet.

its not like i smell it anymore, it only happens for brief periods of time, either through smell or taste, and then goes away. im thinking it couldve been something in the trash, but its just strange that im still gettting the smell/taste sensation almost a week later.

Is anyone in the household taking supplements? Possibly a new supplement?

Supplements such as Fish Oil tend to give off an odor that comes out through the skin. Also, some foods do the same like garlic. You actually don't smell a garlic smell reeking from the skin but a usually smell.

Good Luck!

Is the smell still only happening in the kitchen? Could the bag have had a leak in it in the garbage and it's in the actual bottom of the plastic trash container, just sitting there?

i dont really smell it anymore actually. it was in the kitchen, but not anymore, which leads me to believe that it may have been in the trash. im starting to forget what it smelled like, so maybe that is why i dont seem to have as many recurrences anymore.
