SANDY RUTH 01-07-2001, 03:48 PM COULD ANYONE TELL ME IF YOU TAKE PILLS FOR DIABETES,AND THEN GO ON INSULIN,CAN YOU LATER GO OFF THE SHOTS AND BACK TO THE PILLS?I HOPE SOMEONE CAN ANSWER THIS QUICKLY. THANKS, SANDY Zoo 01-08-2001, 01:21 PM I've never heard of anyone being able to go off insulin after starting it. Probably won't either until there is a cure someday. My husband started out on glucophage and when that didn't work they put him on insulin. They tell him he'll be on it for the rest of his life. themixman2 02-16-2001, 09:23 PM the mixture of pills and insulin is to control uncontrolled blood sugars. if youre type 1, than expect to be on insulin until a cure comes out, or talk to a Dr. about an insulin pump. If its type 2 diabetes, than the insulin is supplimental to the pills because sugars are running high due to whatever reasons-if left uncontrolled insulin may be needed for ever, but if its because youre fat and unhealthy, a change of lifestyle might be in order. go on a diet, lose weight, eat right, exercise and the pills may be all you need. The point of booth the pills and insulin are to keep your blood sugar at a reasonable level. Educate yourself about diabetes and you'll find out the answers to many of your own questions. Marie55 02-16-2001, 10:34 PM Yes, if you re Type 2, this is possible. You will be interested in the following site: http://www.diabeticgourmet.com/forum/type2/ Some people posting have done just that. Being in strict control of what you eat can lower the A1c to the point the doctor will reduce insulin, meds, etc. to just diet and exercise if you are Type 2 Diabetic. |
