Hey all. I've got a friend who's never had any sexual contact with a man. She had a Pap that came back ASCUS and she just went in for an HPV test. I told her since she had never had sex or sexual contact, that she probably didn't have anything to worry about. Does anyone know the chances of getting HPV without any sexual contact? I know they have to be pretty slim. Thanks!

It's very unlikely but it does happen.

who knows but if (and i dont mean to sound dirty) your friend has some sort of wart virus on her hand or he has it on his hand and she had some sexual contact that didnt actully mean intercourse then yes it can transfer there.

Sure you can get it w/o sex! HPV includes ALL strains of the virus, not just the kinds that are transmitted sexually. e.g. there are tons of kids running around with warts on their hands or feet and nobody is claiming they got them from sexual contact. I had a wart on my leg as a youth and certainly didn't get it that way.
Sexual contact is probably the best way, since there's waaaay more physical contact (and if she actually had a case of genital warts, the conection would be obvious) but it's certainly not the only way. It just means that she had some kind of physical contact with someone with the virus.
