I have a plantar wart on my foot and I want to try the duct tape route before I spend any money on OTC stuff or the dr. My question, do you leave it on in shower or put a new piece on every day? I can't imagine that the same piece would stay on for very long. Also, will I need to do any scraping or filing? Thanks! :)

Duct tape is said to macerate the wart(starve it by cutting off air supply and changing the physiology of the wart).It works!I had a nice one on my finger 2 years ago.I went to my doctor and he said to tape it.I did and it went away and has never come back.

My doctor told me to try the duct tape and she said to change it every 6 days or so. However, I could hardly get it to stay for even a few hours. It always ended up migrating or bunched up in some awkward part of my sock. I tried big pieces, small pieces....

My best luck has been the OTC acid treatments that come in a little bottle and you brush onto the wart. The medicated pads don't seem to work (again, tend to migrate) and I haven't tried the OTC freezing stuff. The main thing is to be very persistent with whatever treatment that you choose.

Also, you do have to remove dead layers of skin with just about any method. If you are using the acid, you will notice that every so often thick layers of skin start flaking off. I usually just use tweezers to peel off the dead skin, but don't do too much digging because that can cause bleeding. Just so you know, warts bleed a LOT, and it hurts a ton (plus, it opens you up to infection...). So resist the urge to dig and just remove the dead stuff on top.

Of course, plantar warts are very stubborn, and it's possible that nothing's going to work. I've had some warts that went away with the acid, but I've also had some that refuse to budge. Then I just gave up and stopped with all treatments for a while, and two of them up and disappeared! They have their own little personalities... you might consider giving them names, especially in case they decide to stick around for a while (my oldest friend is now 7 years old...).

Well, so far it's staying on pretty well until I get into the shower. I am just putting a new piece on after that. It's been 2 days, so we will see. Thanks!
