Hi everyone
I'm a new member, and also new to dentures.I had extractions and an upper denture put in three weks ago this coming Wednesday. Everything went fine,I had no pain at all, didnt even need the perecet that was perscribed. My denture fits tight and havent even had to have an adjustment yet.I know I am very lucky--I even eat anything I wanted from the second day.But I do have one terrible problem.I can not get used to them!!!I wear them 24/7 hoping that will help.I leave them out only for cleaning. It's just an awareness of them being there. Will this ever go away? Please someone tell me it will lol.Hugs to you all

Good Morning Ritaann
Welcome to these boards! They are so amazing...and such a help...
I am new to dentures, too...I had my extractions on Jan.4 and got immediates top and bottom...With the tops there usually aren't too many problems at all...mine only started getting loose about 3-4 weeks ago. The only adjustment I've had to the top is just a little on the back of one side. When they started getting a little loose it was starting to make me have a slight gag reflex. After trimming just a tiny tiny bit off they were fine again. Now, the bottoms - that's a whole nother story!!!
If you are only 3 weeks into this new adventure - YOU ARE DOING FANTASTIC!! Just hang in there and give it a little more time...you will adjust to them. At first, I felt like I was wearing a sports mouthpiece!! It felt sooo huge in my mouth...but then one day it didn't seem to bother me as much..and now, I don't even think about it anymore...So it DOES get better..
Please let me know how things go, okay! You'll be in my thoughts :) ....

Lots and lots of hugs,
Jackie

Hi Rita....yes it will get better. This Wed. will be 4 weeks for my extractions and upper immediate denture. The first week I cried and wanted to rip them out all the time. By the second week they seemed to fit better, or I just got used to them. Now they are no bother at all. Just hang in there.

Hi Jackie and Janice
Thank you both so much for replying,I really appreciate it!I am going to hang in there--I want so bad to get used to them!!That is my only problem so far--being constantly aware of them.I tell myself to quit belly aching all the time,it could be alot worse--I could have sore spots,I could not be able to eat well or speak well or a dozen other things!I will get used to them because I have too lol.I just need to be a little more patient I guess :)

I have had my dentures for about 5 and a half years. I think at this point I am more aware of them when they are out of my mouth than in it. I do take them out and sleep without them to rest my gums, etc.

The sensation and fulness they give your mouth will go away over time. Wearing them 24/7 at first is good. It will make your mouth more used to them quickly. Some people never get used to them. The fact that you are not in pain, have a good comfortable fit and are eating well is a sure sign that you are getting used to them.

WOW! You are doing GREAT!!
But don't ask me about the getting used to them part-I am 6 mos into it and still have NOT! Maybe never will..They just seem bulky, and I can't stand how they FEEL! YUK! :) Rather go nekkid-ha ha.

Hi Wintersun
I know what you mean lol--I am having a hard time getting used to the denture but I'm determined to do it if it kills me  which I wonder sometimes lol.It seems to be a bit better so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. After wearing them all day it seems like my face is so tired but it has to be my imagination surely. You have a great day!
Hugs
Rita
