View Full Version : PICC line for suspected CF infection

After four antibiotics including Bactrum and Levaquin, my son will require a PICC line to conquer the haemopholis infection in his lungs. Can anyone make him feel better about this device? He plays competitive tennis and is afraid his life will be ruined by this three week (or more) treatment plan. His sweat test read 41, but we still await the genetic panel to confirm the CF diagnosis. The waiting could kill you.

Hey,

You may get more responces posting in the CF section of the board.

Good luck in getting a diagnosis, once they know what it is they will be able to treat it.

Hi, I hope by now your son has had his PICC line placed and is done with antibiotic therapy or nearly done. PICC lines are great for individuals requiring IV antibiotic therapy over for a long period of time as an inpatient or as an outpatient. Picc lines minimally limit activities. They eliminate the need for frequent needle sticks th establish new IV sites and for blood draws. As with all things, there is the potential for some problems, but overall the risks are low and the benefits are significant. Excellent care from your physician, nurses and home health or outpatient care team should make this a process that actually helps you carry on with your normal routine and activities for the most part. Good luck to you, I hope you are actually finished or nearly finished with your course of IV antibiotics by now!
