And is it common that chest pain would be the only symptom I would have. This pain I have is towards the top of my chest and gets worse if I press on it. I am 32 years old and do not smoke. Any help would be appreciated.

There are many things it could be including muscular or skeletal causes. Not to scare you but I had reacurring chest pain on and off for many years that meds never really seemed to help. Finally while getting CT scanned for something else they found a baseball sized growth in my right middle lobe exactly under where the on and off pain was. Turned out to be malignant Carcinoid cancer and the tumor (and entire middle lobe) was removed by surgery a month ago and I am still recovering from that. I am a life long non smoker. Chances are what you have isn't cancer but if its chronic I'd still get it checked out with a CT scan. Sometimes various enzyme tests can suggest the presence of some cancers. The doc said my cancer had been there at least 7 years and none of my docs ever came close to thinking I might have cancer. I also had chronic bronchitis (blamed on mold/mildew from the old house I live in). Other than that and the chest pain I had no symptoms whatsoever. The week before the surgery they tested me for 2 enzymes that some cancers produce and was positive for both. I have another CT scan in a few months to determine if they got it all. I was very lucky it hadn't travelled anywhere else yet so surgery was the option.
