View Full Version : "stone bruises" on feet

For the past 10 years (when I started high school) I've been having problems with bruising on my feet. Basically, i can't stand up or walk too long in most shoes. But Tennis shoes (and believe me I've bought so many different kinds including nursing shoes) seem to be the worst. Heals I usually do fine in until I have to stand for too long. I get bruises (up to quarter or half dollar sized) between my toes, in my instep, on my heal, pretty much all over the bottom and sides of my feet. Its very painful. They usually feel swollen and throbbing when it gets bad. A while back I went to a podiatrist who charged $350 and only asked me to take my shoes off, looked at my feet, and then said I think your shoes are the wrong size. Well, I've tried different sizes and kinds and everything. Shoes aren't my problem. It's standing and walking. I don't have the money to see another doctor who's going to charge too much and not fix the problem. I don't know anyone else who's had this bruising. Any ones heard of this? (I've also developed hip discomfort but I don't know if its related)

I don't have a solution for you but I have a similar problem. I'm in my 20's and have been getting bruises on my feet for the last 5 years or so. It seems to happen if I walk a lot more than normal with shoes on, or if I walk around without shoes, like by the pool or beach. My bruises appear as slightly raised red spots on the bottom and sides of my feet. They make it painful to walk but don't hurt much if I'm off my feet. I have also had a similar problem on my hands if I work with them too much such as building a retaining wall (digging, carrying concrete blocks, operating sod cutter, saws, etc). I have not done much as far as trying different shoes. If anyone has a definitive cause or solution it would be appreciated.

I can suggest going to the emergency room if u cannot afford a doctor. Then show them the bruises. I have heard of this before. It may be from too much blood flow into the area or sensitive skin. My aunt had the same thing and both of these answers were what two different emergency room doctors told her. Other issues could be present, like platelet disfunction, but that is rare.
