Hi everyone! I have been in a constant state of anxiety and panic for a couple of months now. Finally decided yesterday that I just couldn't take it anymore and I went to see my doctor. She prescribed BuSpar to help reduce the anxiety. I am already on Welbutrin to treat the depression. Is anyone else on BuSpar? I'm wondering if it's going to make me hungry all the time and gain weight? Also, the Welbutrin works well on the depressive symptoms, but does tend to make me jittery and increase the anxiety as well (common side effects); so essentially I am taking the antianxiety med to treat the side effects of the antidepressent. Just looking for some feedback re: other people's experiences with psychotropic drugs. The only other one I ever took was Klonipin when in the hospital to calm me down enough so I could eat. But that's just a PRN and all it did was knock me out. I have two kids (single mom) and can't wander around sedated all day!

Hey,

I just started taking Buspar about 8 days ago, and so far have only had minimal results. Of course, I know it takes a few weeks to really start working. I also have been on many, many psychotrophics in the past but didn't react well with anti-depressants. I know what you mean about the Wellbutrin--in my case, it made my anxiety so bad that I had to get off it. I'm somewhat surprised your doctor put you on Wellbutrin, though, because I thought I'd heard the warning that it shouldn't be used with people with eating disorders (?)

Sorry this isn't very helpful, as I haven't been on Buspar long enough the notice any significant changes. I have not noticed weight gain as a side effect, and it doesn't seem to be a sedating drug either (if anything, the opposite for me oddly enough). I did have some stomach-related side effects and mild headaches from it that are slowly going away. It doesn't seem to increase my appetite at all.

You were on Wellbutrin? And you have an eating disorder? My doctor wouldn't put me on that because it's terrible for people with an eating disorder and it can cause major heart problems.
Sorry I just saw that and it worried me. Good luck with your anxiety I am on Seroquel and it works wonders!

Thank you for the responses! I haven't been at the computer since I sent it. Yes, I know about the Welbutrin. I actually requested it specifically for that reason (the initial weight loss it can cause) and because it doesn't cause sexual side effects. It was last spring when I wasn't in a very good place, and she was a new doctor to me at the time and I wasn't honest about my history. The BuSpar is still giving me nasty nasty headaches. And I am a little MORE jittery. But she said both those side effects are common in the first week or two. I am on a really low dose for now too... 5 mg once a day. I have an appointment in 3 weeks to follow up. And yes, I am still on the Welbutrin. I seriously believe it has helped the depression. Thanks again for your input!
