View Full Version : Question about my dinner content and timing.

I usually workout around 8pm after which I have a protein shake with dextrose. I usually eat dinner between 9:30 and 10:30 and go to bed around 12:30. One of the common dinner meals I have is whole grain spaghetti. I am wondering if it might be better to eat regular white spaghetti rather than the whole grain at this time. The reasoning is that the whole grain stuff is lower glycemic index meaning it might not be fully absorbed even by the time I get to bed and after. So after I fall asleep, my metabolism will slow down and this excess whole grain pasta will be stored as fat. Conversely, the white pasta would have hopefully all been absorbed before bedtime and moreover it would be eaten within 3 hours of the workout, a time when my metabolism has not slowed to a crawl. Does that make sense at all? It's not that I mind eating the whole grain stuff, I just want to minimize fat accumulation.

Thanks,

Bruce
