Hello everyone,

It has been two weeks that I'm on 20 mg prozac every other day each morning and 2 mg ativan every night plus therapy and I'm feeling much better.

I still feel depressed and down sometimes, especially mornings, but it is much easier to keep control, think clearer, and not break down since I got help.

Is it normal to feel better this early? What do you think I can expect in the coming months in terms of more benefits and dependency.

thank you

Everyone is different when it comes to meds. If you're feeling better at 2 weeks then you'll probably be much better at 4 weeks. I started feeling a little better at 2 weeks on Prozac and I was only on 10mg. Now I'm up to 20 and I'm starting to feel human again.

It is pretty common to notice improvement in the first two weeks with anti-depressants. That is great news you are feeling better!

Hi there,

Wondering if it's too good to be true? And what must the downside be then?

Like visions and RatPack said, it could be that you are already noticing a difference. And that's on 1/2 an initial dose of Prozac, every other day!! I wouldn't be surprised if you are upped to daily Prozac soon, and maybe up to 20 mg. a day, but possibly not. Prozac will actually treat depression as well as anxiety, but you probably have the Ativan to deal with any potential initial side effects. A common one is insomnia, so it sounds like your doctor has some idea of how to minimize these things.

Prozac isn't addictive, and the general rule of thumb is to stay on an antidepressant for a minimum of 6 months from the time you are feeling like yourself again, not from day one.

Ativan can be habit forming, more if there is any addiction leanings in your history. It isn't immediately addicting for most people. I was on a similar med for over 5 months, 3x/day. I tapered off it without problems. It seems you could probably trust your doctor's suggestions on your treatment, from what you've said here, but that's a non-professional opinion of some mom on the net.

I hope you're feeling better and better soon!
