Hi Iam new to this board and have alot of questions. I am a 45 year old that has poly cystic ovarian diease since I was 18( or before but found out at 18) I had several cysts removed before I was 17 ) I think 4 times) took birth control pills( which made me deathly ill) I also was a size 40-dd in secound grade had facial hair all over, a line of hair from belly button hair on breasts Used to tell everyone I was a man. At 18 I had a wedge resection and had my first period, and for 3 months continued. Then nothing I would go 2 years without. Then maybe 1. I got married at 24 and we tried and tried to have a child went to drs from here to Germany(not that we rich my husband was in the army), We tried everything with no luck. In the mean time I had surgery after lapascropy to remove cysts I took clomid and dexathamestone and all I think everything they had back then. I was always really skinny tho. Wel in 1995 we were adopting and I found out I was 51/2 months pregnant. Everything went great. Now in 1997 I started having these nearly passing out spells and severe headaches everyday all day and alot more symptoms numerous hosptals stays and test noone found nothing Now 6 years later I just found out I had thyroid problems nodules hot and cold just did r.a.i have to wait to see what happens there. My question is I had a hysterctomy in 2000 because I started to bleed all the time. Now Do I still have the polycystic diease or because of the hysterctomy is it gone.I still have all the hair and was told in 1989 I was missing a enzyme ( but the endo did a test with urine I think a acth and it came out normal) Now I have read that congential adrenal hyperplasia and polycystic ovarian have the same symptoms But if i check normal for that and I had a hysterctomy why do I still have all the hair everywhere and acne and all? I would appreciate any help because I know thias has came along way since my dianosis. Thank all in advance

Hello,

I'm not a doctor, but if you had a hysterectomy did they take out or leave your ovaries. If they left your ovaries then yes you could still have PCOS. If they took the ovaries, then I would push them to run more tests and do not take "there is nothing wrong with you" diagnosis. Keep pushing until you know what is going on. Good luck.

Unfortunatley PCOS is usually not cured by a hysterectomy.
PCOS is not actually caused by a womans ovaries. Ovarian cysts are just a symptom of the problem.
Many woman who have PCOS also suffer from insulin resistance which means, that our bodies produce high amounts of insulin and causes blood sugars to be unstable at times and cause the dizzy spells and head aches your experiencing.
I would suggest seeing an endocrinologist and requesting a fasting insulin test.
Good luck.

I don't really know about the medication you mentioned but If your insulin is high usually the doctor wil prescribe Metformin or glucophage to lower your insulin levels.
