Does anyone take flaxseed oil pills on this site? I've heard (and read) that flaxseed is good for the blood (in turn fighting heart problems and bad cholesterol). Just wondering if anyone has any pro or con experiences with the stuff! Thanks!

Flaxseed (oil) is a good omega-3 fatty acid and works well for some people but it doesn't have EPA and DHA which are the healing molecules of the omega-3's. In order to get these from flax its omega-3's have to be converted from a 18 carbon long fat to a 20/22 carbon long fats (EPA/DHA) and this done by the ''Delta-6 Desaturase'' enzyme which doesn't work very well in a lot of people ....so the answer is to take fish oils which are aready converted and already have EPA/DHA ......

not alot of point as the fat is the falx will have to be converted to the active formks already found in the fish oil. you're much better of just buying more fish oil instead.

 Hi There,
I just read on another thread that flaxseed oil is good for getting rid of sun spots, brown spots on face. Does anyone know if this is true or not. I am curious since I have never heard of this oil before.

I'm glad I found this thread. Thank you for the info. Very interesting..

Does anyone take flaxseed oil pills on this site?I take flax (linseed) whole. I think I looked over the cost of flax seed oil capsules and decided whole flax would suit me just fine. I put it in the blender to grind it fine and then add a spoonful to a cup of tea 2 or 3 times a day. My feelings about it is that it helped my heart and breathing, reduced that out of breath feeling, as well as the coenzyme q10 I was taking. I feel I have more energy taking it, and, of course, it does wonders for ... um ... what they call "regularity". That's the added benefit of taking the whole product rather than just the extract.

I went through the whole Flax Seed oil vs Seeds last year. Taking oil seemed to help out with joint problems I was having. So I moved to grinding seeds. To obtain the same amount of oil from seeds (you should take 1 tablespoon per 100 lbs.) it takes six tablespoons of seeds to obtain one tablespoon of oil. I quit the oil/seed program about 6-8 months ago. Recently I started riding my stationary bike again and my hips are killing me. This time around I'm gonna try fish oil in liquid form.

Thank you for replying 6foot3. I'm not sure what you mean about snake oil. Are you saying that it can help remove sun spots?? if so, where and how do I find snake oil and have you used it for the dark spots?? I'm so desperate to find something????? I really hope you will read this and reply back..

Thanks again

Mellag...Snake Oil is a paraphrase for phony/fake. I think it came out of the 1870's old west as phony peddlers tried to sell turpentine or castor oil as a cure all to the settlers that had no hospitals or Dr's out there.(hence the term snake oil)

As for sunspots there is no supplement or food that will reverse them. However there are fade cream products in cosmetics or seeing an Dermatologist can prescribe special creams or laser therapy to remove. One last thing is that you can prevent them by eating certain fats. You see your skin cells are constantly rebuilding with the fat you eat and when the sun hits your skin the fat oxidizes and forms these spots so the best fat that doesn't oxidize to heat and light is monounsaturated fats and the best food for that is Olive Oil so consume this daily and you'll slowly protect your skin in the future from sunspots, wrinkling and skin cancer......:)

Hmm... I just started taking flax seed oil pills maybe three weeks ago for omega-3's. The reason I chose flax seed oil over fish oil is because I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat fish. But I'm not a militant vegetarian, I grew up vegetarian and I'm used to it, and I don't see any need to change. I'm loose enough about it that I'd probably consider making an exception for fish oil pills if they were significantly better than flax seed oil. Are there other major benefits of using fish oil over flax seed oil?

FeludaX....For some people Flax works fine and is converted by the body to EPA/DHA. Usually a general rule of thumb is 35 yo or younger, also not overweight and stable insulin levels then the delta-6 enzyme should convert fine. But if you do not want to take that chance then Fish oil is already converted for these extra benefits.....
