Hi Everyone, I just went to have my upper denture "fixed". Well they took another impression and they are keeping my upper denture!!!! I go in on the 3rd to have wax impression and then they will make my new immediate.
I was hoping when they made the new one (since they messed it up in the first place)that I would get to keep the screwed up one until the new one was made.
Its been over a month now, and I was eating almost everything (except steak) now I have no upper to eat with. Luckily I got to keep my bottom partial. Now they did hack off half of it (dont ask).
Am I back to eating mashed potatos again ???? I wanted them fixed but I find this is ridiculous and I should have been able to keep the old ones.
Is this normal procedure?
Thanks

Hope,
What reason did they give you for keeping them?

Hi jackie,
Uggh, he didn't really give me a reason! He used my upper to make the impression and then he said it would be "destroyed" in the making of the new denture! I don't understand why they just couldn't do the impression without using my upper :(
I was finally getting use to eating again, now I'm lost and have no clue as to what I'm going to eat!

I would have thought he could have made an impression just like in the beginning - as if you'd never had one made!! I know you've got to be feeling very frustrated about the whole ordeal. I sure would be! This is turning back time, isn't it? I think he would have had to physically pry them away from me!! He would have had a fight on his hands!! I am sooo sorry that you are having to go through all of this. So, you go back on the 3rd to do the impression to make the new plate? Why didn't they do that today? How long is it going to take to get it after the impressions are made?

No, he did the impression AND wax bite together TODAY!!! He used my Immediate Upper denture to make the impression. He put that goop in my upper denture and had me bite down. It was with new stuff this time and I was gagging and had trouble breathing!!! It was worse than the first time :(
On the 3rd he is going to give me a wax try in of my new upper to make sure they have my front teeth and bite right. Then after the 3rd they will start making my new immediate.
My husband is soooo upset with this place, he thinks they are some fly by night place. They do so many dentures that they don't take the time to get them right the first time.
I went grocery shopping yesterday and bought MANY of my favorite foods (because I was doing so well with my teeth) now I cannot eat any of it.
I'm becoming depressed, I know I WONT go out in public with my teeth out, and luckily my husband loves me and not my teeth. He and the kids have seen me without them.
Thanks for all of your support, I just want to lay down and cry.

Thanks for all your support Jackie, it means the world to me. I do know that when I'm ready for my permanent ones I know what a HARD RELINE is, and it is horrible!!! (at least at this office)

Hi Wintersun,
Well the reason I didn't put up a fight is because when I found out they were going to keep my upper it was to late! He told me to open up and I didn't notice they were using my upper plate to MAKE the impression until it came out of my mouth!!! At this point I was having trouble breathing, they used a hard reline material and I was gagging pretty bad on it :( When he told me they were going to remake it I THOUGHT (stupid me thinking again...lol) that I would get to keep my old one and they'd take an impression the way they did in the beginning and Id just have to wait for the new one.
Then when I was sent to make an appt, I THOUGHT it was to pick up my new teeth...ooooh noooo its to try in the wax one.
I am looking for their main office phone number so I can call and complain. I shouldn't have to go 2 weeks without an upper, when its THEM that screwed up my denture in the first place!
Unfortunately they are RUDE there and I would NEVER recommend them to anyone!

Good morning Hope  How are things going?
I agree with Wintersun....I just don't understand!!! This is all traumatic enough without adding more burdens to it. I wonder how things would be handled for them if the tables were turned, and it was one of them sitting in the chair! They definitely don't have any compassion, and they don't need to be in the position they're in. When do you go in for the impression? And then how long will you have to wait, again to get the denture? You sure don't want to demand a rush job, because they may screw up just as bad again. Didn't you tell me that where you go everything is done in one building? There should be NO EXCUSE for goofing up as badly as they have with you. Do they do such a shoddy job on everyone? If that's the case, I believe I'd be turning them in to someone with authority over them.
Going through this in our life is not easy to begin with. Until anyone walks in our shoes they truly truly don't understand! I am so so sorry that this is happening to you. Please don't give up. You are constantly in my prayers. If I could be there to give you a big hug, I would. I tell you what to do -
cross your arms in front of you and give yourself a big squeeze - that's a hug from me...(it's the best I can do ;) )...Please let me know how you're doing okay?
Love 'ya,
Jackie

Thanks to the both of you!!!!!
They put the "GOOP" in the upper denture to get the impression of my upper gum I guess. He told me Id have them in a few days and the receptionist says I will have to have a wax try in FIRST.....I don't think anyone knows what the other one is doing over there.
Blueheart, YES they do it ALL in the ONE building!!!!!
I will be calling someone, this place IS FAR FROM RIGHT!!!!
Again thanks for both of you being here to listen to me vent

Are they making a completely new max denture for you or are they adjusting the old max denture? It reads to me like you were told 2 completely different things.
If they are making a completely new denture for you then they would need to take an impression of your upper jaw and lower jaw. Then send those impressions to the lab for them to make a wax model. You then go to the dentist for the try-in. The wax model is placed in the mouth and the dentist will make small adjustments here and there to get an exact fit. The dentist will take a few measurements, color match teeth to match your lower teeth and skin tone and then will choose the size for your teeth as well as what materials will be used to construct the new denture. Then the wax model will be sent back to the lab for the new denture to be made.
You would keep your existing denture during this process, which can take a few weeks.
If they are adjusting an existing denture, the dentist would take an impression with a reline material on your denture. The denture would be placed in the mouth and the impression taken. The impression with the denture attached is then sent to the lab to be adjusted to get a proper fit. This does not take 3 weeks to do. It should only take 1-5 days depending on the lab and their schedule.

Thanks JenniferE,
I was told 2 different things. At first he said he was going to "reset" them. Then he said he was remaking them.
But they did put the gooo in my upper denture and had me bite down. Then they said that I would have to come in for my wax try in.
The wax try in is what I'm confused about, at allcare EVERYONE gets the same exact teeth and color for their immediates sooooo I know Im not picking teeth color or shape.
The problem I was having was my midline, since day 1 of extractions my front two teeth were not lined up under my nose, they were wayyy off to the left. It took a MONTH of complaining for them to fix this. And when I finally went to get this fixed withing 5 min he said we are going to "fix" the existing pair then he went to we are going to remake them.
Im confused, and Im upset. Its been a beautiful weekend here and I won't go outside without my teeth. I'm 38 and I don't want my neighbors seeing me this way. My family is use to it now, but it is sooo embarrasing to me.
Hope
Ps....they DID take a lower impression too. So if they are remaking them WHY did they use my upper plate for the upper impression????

Good morning Jackie
How am I doing?? lol, thats a LOADED question......well with each passing day I'm becoming more and more upset with my choice of dental "Professionals" IF you can call them that.
How are you doing? I bet your eating almost everything now :) Have you attempted salad yet?
Im so happy for you and that you don't have to deal with the kind of incompitance that I have to.
Hows that grandbaby of yours?

Hi Hope
Thanks so much for asking about my grandson! :) He'll be 8 months on Thursday...he's growing sooo fast. He finally cut 2 teeth last week, and already can tell where a 3rd is going to come in...He says Pawpaw - which tickles my husband....you should just see him beam everytime Kelton says it!
I feel so much compassion for what you are going through! By this time, you should be well into your recovery - not one step forward and two (or more) steps back! I agree with you, I don't think they're behaving too much like professionals. They really have you in a corner - at their mercy...and it's just NOT suppose to be like that.
I'm doing okay with mine. They seem to be getting loose again. The only thing I'm a little concerned about is the timetable for making my perms. When I went in for my visit on the 18th of April - I think he had in his mind to talk me into doing impressions for them until I told him how loose they were - how I couldn't keep my tops in comfortably without adhesive...and that I thought he should put in some more liner. He agreed and did so...and told me there was no need to rush things....see, originally, he told me that we wouldn't do the perms until about June - which would be 6 months. He told me that would give my mouth plenty of time to heal and shrink and do everything that is natural for it to do....I've read in so many places that in order to get the best fit possible for your perms that you need to wait...that will give you a much better fit. I'm afraid that when I go in May 18th that he's going to be planning to do the impressions for the perms then. I will be 4 months on May 4th....I talked with my husband about it and told him my feelings about it being too soon. He told me to tell them that I don't want it done now that I want to wait like we originally discussed. They are already paid for, so I don't see the urgency in doing it sooner than later. I understand that the perms are suppose to be a much better fit. One of the only problems that I have with my immediates is that my lower plate (in one spot) cuts into the inside of my jaw line and that is the only area that I continue to have an ulcer...he's adjusted and polished that area but it doesn't really help...I think it's because it doesn't come down far enough on the inside that causes the problem. As long as I keep the bottoms from moving with the use of Fixodent it doesn't cause me any problem. I think the doc and I will just have us a heart-to-heart talk that day....if I don't think the time is right...I just won't agree to do it.....
Hubby brought me home a burger one day for lunch that had lettuce on it and it stuck in the top of my mouth....and then one night about a month ago he took me out to eat....a salad came with our meal. I gave it a try but it felt too difficult to chew. It was cut up into tiny strips, so I don't know if that might have been the problem or not.....so for now, I'm just avoiding lettuce completely!! I can't eat bacon either! It may just be a mind thing, but I just can't chew it...There are alot of foods that I haven't attempted yet...I have a tendency to stay in a "safe zone"... :D
I'll get braver!!
Lots of hugs,
Jackie

Hey Jackie
I was leaving my comfort zone, I was eating burgers on a bun...homemade of course off the grill (cant do mcdonalds yet), and I was able to eat bacon :)
I was getting really good, I was even going to try a steak at home but my dental place blew that for me!
I dont know who to call, when I read Jennifer E's reply it sounds like I should have teeth this week with what they did to me, but them doing the bottom impression too throws me off!!
I'm hungry and confused, I just want this whole experience done with. Getting my teeth pulled was the easy part.
They also having me driving 30min for 2min appts and with the price of gas its becoming really annoying.

Hope,
You were doing really good!! Yea, I could eat those burgers on a bun fairly easy...as long as they weren't too thick...do you remember food tasting so good?
I know the price of gas is crazy!! My dentist's office is only about 10 miles away. Atleast my visits have been 3-4 weeks apart. In this little town I live in it's $2.78 a gallon...I don't see an end to it either...
When is your visit? You should call them and ask them just how long they expect you to be without your teeth! It seems like they were making sure the cost of their mess up wasn't going to be no more than they could help! I just don't understand why they couldn't let you keep your upper plate until they got the new one made!! I believe I would have to tell them just how I felt about the quality of treatment that they were giving me...and it wouldn't be good either. Maybe their other clientel need to know how terrible you're being treated.
I know you're hungry! It's not easy having the ability to eat taken away! You're back to the applesauce's, puddings, soups, mashed potatoes, etc...I wish I could think of something yummy that you could eat...

Well the price of gas is 3.00 here, and they had me going once every 2 weeks.
I don't know what to do, on one hand I want to scream.....but I also feel they think I'm being a pain in the butt and thats why they are treating me like this.
The doctors are soo rude, they talk to you with their backs turned and when you go to answer their question or god forbid ask them something they ignore you and walk away. I've had 2 do this to me. And the ones that work on your mouth and your dentures are not happy and very moody. Thank god the girls that clean you up and get you ready are nice. I'm so displeased in so many areas of this place.
I also know if I call to complain they will tell me, your the one that wanted them fixed so now you have to deal with it, this is how they are :(
They were real friendly until the teeth were pulled and they had 60% of my money. On ALLCARES home page they have a place to email them questions and I might do that, not that I'm expecting them to do anything for me.
I just called Allcare and asked WHEN will I get my teeth back, she said I have an appt wednesday, I told her I know but that is just for the wax try in, she then stated they would also be ready that day!!!!!! OMG IM soooo happy, BUT if I have the same problem (teeth off center) Im going to explode, I normally don't make a scene but I have a limit and then I snap and I've reached my limit

Hope, that's fantastic news!!! :) :bouncing: :) Oh, sweetie, I PRAY with all my heart, that they will be ready...If they're not - you have every right to snap and throw a fit!! Maybe that's what they need - then they'll know that they can't continue to push you around...MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE the girl on the phone was truthful and really knew what she was talking about and everything will be right and this nightmare will be over. You'll have to let me know, okay?!!
