I got my cast off yesterday!!! It wasn't a scary as I thought, or as smelly. I did manage to get my sneaker on at the Dr.'s office, with some gentle force and a shoehorn. The Dr. says he wants me to wear it all day to support the foot. We'll see. I woke up and put it on this morning, but I have a feeling it's gonna swell. I thing I'm gonna get some bigger cheap sneakers for now. It looks beautiful, if you don't count the Frankenstein scar. It' so straight and narrow! There's swelling, but I expected that. I took the grossest yet best bath of my life last night. Yuck! I'll let you guys know how it goes as the days go on... Kim

Wow! I'm so glad you got the cast off. I can't believe you were able to get your foot in a sneaker already. I'm amazed. That gives me hope about shoes after surgery. Have a great day.

Well, as I suspected, I couldn't keep it on for long. I hobbled out to the garage and found a sneaker that really fits - my husband's size 10!! That's more like it. With my orthotic it feels good. It's great to know I can at least get my own on, though. One step at a time. Ha Ha. It sure feels great not to have the cast pushing down on my foot all day. Kim

:bouncing: Yeah, Kim!!! :bouncing:
This is so exciting for me, seeing others get their casts off!!! What is your program now? Full weight as tolerated, or still partially using a crutch? You will start pt soon? How is the skin? I am so happy for you, keep posting. It really is good for me as a newbie with months to go to read the drags, how people get through the drags, and, finally, the success!!! The "other" Kim :jester:

I don't know what the plan is. I've decided my Dr. believes in the "need to know" basis! I got Xrays yesterday after my appt., I have to bring them to him on Wed. Until then, I am still on crutches, he said I could only put about 20 pounds pressure down on it. I am putting it down with each step, but just to steady myself. I'm so used to that peg on the sole that my foot feels too short now! It feels so good to bend & flex my ankle as I walk. I think he wants to see what I can do for my own rehab first. I'm supposed to bend my toes around as much as is comfortable, and write the ABC's with my foot, to use my ankle. That's hard! The skin on my leg is all normal after a bath, a shave and moisturizer. I don't dare scrub my foot, so I'll be more patient with it. The scabs are big and black but the foot is still better than it was. I'm taking vitamin E and he said to massage the scars with the E when I can. PS - I was surprised to find that the cast that seemed SO heavy only weighed 6 pounds!! Kim
