I guess it all depends on the type of foods your eating.

If your doctor wants you to eat six times a day, then that's what you need to do. Anything less and you'll lose weight seems logical. I know it requires a leap of faith, but you may find that even eating six times a day does not put weight on so quickly - but it will allow your dr. to see exactly what your body needs at the moment and go from there.

the reason is because you used to eat such little calories that actually sometimes adding some boosts your metabolism more, which in turn causes you to burn more calories and you end up losing weight. that used to happen to me at the beginning of my ed and i would eat a little more for a couple days. but tyluck is right, you do need to be eating what your doctor is reccomending. there is a reason why they are telling you to do what they are! but you are already taking steps forward for eating more and trying at this! keep at it!

You said "if you eat, aren't you supposed to gain weight?". No - if you eat EXTRA calories, THEN you gain weight. You don't simply eat to gain weight - you eat to live. You are obviously not eating enough to maintain your weight LET ALONE gain weight. Eating 6 times a day is supposed to be healthier b/c it keeps your metabolism working consistently, but I personally prefer 3 big meals with 2 snacks b/c I like to feel that satisfied feeling at breakfast lunch and dinner.
Texascowgirl is right, though - a LOT of people go into a hypermetabolic state when they first start eating more b/c their metabolism starts to pick up and it burns calories like crazy. It might sound kind of cool at first, but it gets frustrating VERY fast. There are a number of girls on these boards right now, actually, who have been having to eat a ridiculous amount of calories just to gain 1lb. Trust what your doctor tells you and don't try to look for excuses not to follow her advice. She is only trying to make you healthy - not fat or out of control.

Thank you so much. I guess i never thought about it that way and it makes me feel a little better to know that lots of people go threw that at the beginning of their ED. I still feel VERY uncomfortable about eating 6 times a day because its hard for me to even eat 3 but my doctor also said that they can be small just not like half of an apple 6 times a day... So i guess i will try to follow what he tells me and i will see if anything really happens. And how much do you HAVE to eat to even gain 1lb?

You have to eat an EXTRA 3500 calories to gain just ONE pound - that is a lot! This does not mean if you eat 3500 calories a day you will gain a pound because it is 3500 EXTRA calories - meaning more than you need to maintain your weight. So say you need 1800 calories to maintain your weight, daily...you would need to eat 3500 on top of that to gain any weight. It's not as easy as you think to put on weight! Eat, girl!!

You are being considered for hospitalization? Honey, you NEED to eat. Your metabolism is probably really slowed down b/c you have been starving yourself for so long so don't be alarmed if the scale goes up quickly (it happens to almost everyone in recovery). As your metabolism catches up, you might even start burning too many calories and you'll have to keep upping what you eat.
Do you want me to make some suggestions to you? You seem really lost in terms of what to eat.
I would try to eat some kind of carb, protein, and fruit for breakfast (maybe oatmeal with a banana and nuts/peanut butter or cereal with fruit and yogurt or cottage cheese)...just try to get all those food groups in.
For lunch, do the same. Protein, carb, veggies, and FAT. You NEED fat. You don't have to eat french fries and grease, but if you want that, then great! But you can eat avocados, peanut butter, nuts, salmon...all of those have GOOD fats.
Dinner should be similar (in terms of food groups). You should also try to include some snacks to keep your metabolism going all day. The longest you should go without eating SOMETHING is probably 3 hours. Serioulsy. I know it seems like a lot, but ironically, the more you start eating, the more calories you will burn. Your body is an amazing machine - it's not stupid. It WANTS to be normal and have energy - it is not trying to sabotage you!
It's actually amazing how much it actually takes to gain weight. I was surprised, too when I learned that it was 3500 extra calories. That's a lot!! I'm glad it makes you want to eat more because you DESPERATELY need to. Good luck!!

honey, are you getting any help from a nutritionist? if not, you need one immediately. your health is at serious risk eating the way that you are. you need a doctor prescribed meal plan that basically forces you to eat more food. just trust me on this, i don't think you can do it alone. and if you find yourself unable to follow a meal plan, then you need hospitalization. i'm really serious about this. i know how much you don't want to go into the hospital, but i think you probably need to, just for a little while. you will die from your diet if it continues like this, do you realize this? please get more intensive help immediately.

Well see i go to a councler and suposably she is somewhat of a nutritionist but idk exactly. All we talk about is my feelings and stuff. Do i need to ask her about one? I dont eat like that ALL the time but sometimes i eat even less then that for a couple of days. I understand that this is serious but I CANT DO IT! I really cant... i just need help.. (sigh)
