I've had my belly button pierced for already almost 2 yrs. it still hasn't healed it's starting now that I got a new soap but what I'm wondering is how do I know if I'm allergic to any certain type of belly ring? My belly button wasn't healing for the longest time and the piercer said it might be because of the type of ring I'm wearing so I tried something different now it is but the other day I looked up on the internet how you know if your allergic to a certain kind of jewelery and it said that more than likely if your allergic to surgical steel that you'll be allergic to gold and gold plated thats the thing they think I'm allergic to surgical steel and when I wear it my navel is black I don't know if it's from the ring or just my belly's healing. I can wear gold so I don't think I 'm allergic to them but who knows. Can anyone out there tell me any information on why my belly might be black and about allergic reactions to jewelery. I'd really appreciate it because when I pierced my belly I went crazy buying all kinds of jewelery and now I don't know weither I can wear it or not.

Are you wearing a hoop or a barbell?
Mine was having trouble with a hoop. It would constantly get bumped and it was pressed down by my shirts. They told me when I got it pierced it had to be a hoop so it could be turned when washing with soap.
I changed it to a barbell and it seemed like that solved alot of problems.
