I'm sorry to hear this news about your mum. You said they told you it was non cell cancer. One question you need to ask is what kind of cancer is it. There are 2 major catagories the medical professionals use for lung cancer. These are:

NSCLS - Non small cell lung cancer
SCLC - Small cell lung cancer

Then there are all different variations of those major catagories.

You are right that you want to ask the doctor what stage is the disease. They use different staging catagories for NSCLC and SCLC.

You need to ask specifically what the treatment options are. Generally, the treatment is different. With solitary NSCLC nodules, surgical removal is often utilized. But you should talk to your mum's doctor about the treatment options.

There are a lot of resources and information on the Internet about lung cancer. Once you know what it is, you can do a google search to learn more about it.

I hope this helps and I pray for the best for your mum and you.

So sorry to hear about your mom! I hope she is doing better now.

Call the American Cancer Society (you can call your local office telephone number listed in the phone book) and get your mom registered with them. They will send both you and her books and pamphlets (TONS of info) on what to ask the doctors, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pharmacists, etc. They will also include a book that is updated at least twice a year with the most up-to-date research on the particular cancer your mom has. It will allow you to converse intelligently with her doctors...

My mom had lung cancer 5 years ago (non small cell) and had the middle lobe of her right lung removed. No additional chemo or radiation needed. No reoccurence (yet). At the time I didn't know about the ACS resources. Then she had a suspicious-looking breast mass a few years ago and I called and they sent me all this great info.

It's definitely and underused resource...
