Anyone have good luck with any solution to calming down the white spots when you tan? They aren't to bad when I am not tanning...but when summer hits it is awful. Any advice?

I have a few of those, I assume you're talking about spots where there's no pigmentation in your skin? Mine don't really bother me. A self-tanner might help to blend them in.

Pigmentation, that is correct. My mom too has it and she did try a slow tanning lotion, however the spots turned orangey. Possibly I will here back from someone who has used a particular tanning product that worked well with this. Or, something that will allow you to tan and not have all of the spots show up so bold. Ahhhhhhhhh.... Thanks so much to responding!!!! :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing:

I THINK i know what you are talking about... Pretty much just blotches on your skin where color doesn't show up? I have it on my legs... i hate it! I thought about asking the people at the tanning salon if there is anything I can do about it... it makes me embarrassed to wear skirts/shorts! Please let me know if you find something that works... !

Actually, I went to the dermatolotigst about four years ago for the same problem. The white spots are an overgrowth of "fungus" on your body. We all have a certain degree of micro organisms that reside on our body, but sometimes due to stress, sweating, or other reasons - there can be an overgrowth, which results in those white spots - they are worsened by tanning. The only way to get rid of them is to go to your doctor and he will give you antibiotics and they will clear up.

Also, to prevent them in the future - I was told to buy Anti-Dandruff shampoo (it contains a certain chemical) and leave it on your skin for 30 minutes once a week - it will kill any overgrowth and prevent this in the future.

I know this probably sounds a bit crazy, but you can ask your doctor - I was treated for the "white spots" when I was about 24 and I have never had them again... :)

Yeah, It's a fungus. My sister gets that too. She uses a prescription antifungal lotion.

You might try using apple cider vinegar like a toner or after bath 'splash.' The smell will go away quickly. I used it to cure a toe nail fungus. Don't know if it will work the same way on skin, but apparently putting ACV at the base of the nail where it grows out, makes the new growth too acidic for the fungus to live in. Plus, you are restoring your skin to the proper PH, so it's a good thing even if it doesn't cure the fungus.

Also, try doing a candida cleanse. I think a lot of us have an imbalance from antibiotics and it manifests it in different ways from yeast infections to nail fungus to skin problems. Some say Sinus problems too.

It can be from a fungus or it can be a permanent condition named vitiglio. The white areas no longer contain pigmentation and will not tan. My mother has had it for over forty years. I also have it, but a milder version and since my skin coloring is very fair it is not as noticeable.

My son and brother have both had the fungus. Your doctor can prescribed a bar soap which will help get rid of it.

I had this problem too. My dermatologist said it is something called "tineaversicolor" and it is some sort of a fungus. She prescribed something for me, and it went away.......years later I got it again and read somewhere to use "vicks vapor rub" and I did and it was great! I would use it only at night for about a week and it worked great. After a few hours the vicks doesn't smell bad anymore and you wash it off in the shower in the morning. Good luck, I hope this helps you.

Question: Do you take BC? BC can cause this. I didn't know until it happened to me this past winter. Your doc can help. Kiesha

HEy I know what you guys are talking about :) I have two and mine are just due to pigmentation. I guess like birth marks--They haven't ever really bothered me... But if i want to cover them up I just use a little makeup/ Oh and you could also use that new spray on makeup for your legs! :) That tends to even out color and hide veins ect... :) My grandma used that. :) They come in a variety of colors from light to dark... You can find them at rite-aid walmart ect... haha as for what they're called I can't remember.. but it just comes in a little golden spray bottle...Oh and it's not permanent...it will wash off it the shower :) It's basically just body makeup! You could also try a self tan... or airbrush tan... But be sure if you go to a professional you know what kind of equipment and solution they're using. Some are AMAZING...others you'll wish you didn't get. :)

The spray stuff in the gold can is Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. It's about $9 at the drugstore and really is pretty nifty. If you don't use moisturizer first, it won't come off on your clothes or furniture or anything, and it blends well. I think it is a good idea to go to the dermatologist though. If it is vitiligo, I don't think that you can do anything but cover it, and stay out of the sun to avoid the contrast. If it is psoriasis (I had white spots on my legs in the summer) or the above-mentioned fungus, the doc can prescribe something and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
