Hello,
I have been diagnosed with 2 herniated disk and bone spurs at C5-6 and C6-7. I had my first epidural on Thursday. The last two nightsI have woke up to find I have urinated in my sleep. I do not have any problems during the day.
Could this be becuase of my neck or the pain meds I am on?
I am a little nervous. Since my doc said if I had any problems with my bladder or bowel to come back in sooner. I see him in 2 weeks.
What do you think?
Kim

If it is out of the ordinary for you to urinate during your sleep - I would call the physician immediately. One thing to consider is if you are on any medications that may cause you to sleep so deeply your body doesn't get up when you have the urge to urinate (i.e. any pain pills or sleeping medications).

Kross,
I am on Lortab and Ambien but I have been taking them for awhile without this happening.
I was also given Valuim from the Pain mgmt doctor. I did take one of them also last night.
I am only taking my Ambien and Lortab tonight and we will see if it happens again.
Thanks for your help.
Kim

incontinence can be a sign of spinal stenosis and would make your situation more urgent

Thanks everyone for your responses.
After I posted I have not had any more accidents at night. I even took a Valuim last night with no problems.
Since having the Epiduril over a week ago I am feeling good. I am not having the constant pain in my arm.
I still have the some urine leakage put mostly if I am running, sit up fast, or laughing. I thought this happens with age.
I have arthritis pretty bad. Right now my knees are bothering more. I think I am looking at getting a knee replacement sson.
So my neck will have to be put on hold as long as the epidule shots are helping.
Thanks,
Kim

at the very least,I would call your treating docs office and speak with a triage nurse there or the docs nurse if you are seeing a neuro.this should be reported to your doc as a new symptom.this really should be evaluated a bit more in depth.for nocturnal incontinence to just start occuring like yours did, could be indicative of more urgent problems or sudden changes in your spinal condition.I have had a neurogenic bladder since my spinal cord damage occured.it kind of gets better then all of the sudden after like two months with no nite time suprises, bam it happens all over again.I now sleep with a poise pad and one of those little mats that I used to use in my kids cribs over the mattress?its water proof.it all really sucks sometimes.but you really do need to report this to your doc so he is aware of this sudden change/new symptom you are dealing with. Please let us know how things go for you.marcia
