View Full Version : Disabilty Hearing.......

Good Morning Everyone.
Just a little info for anyone living in Indiana. My husband filed for his appeal hearing in June of 2005. We had not heard anything {and I realize this is a slow process} so I e-mailed our senator to see if he could find out the status on my Husbands claim, and we received a letter from him yesterday along with a copy of a letter sent to him by SS. It said that they are just now working on cases from May/June of 2004. So it looks like he still has about a year to wait on a hearing date. I have no clue how they expect people to live when they have to wait over 2 years to even get a hearing. He originally applied for disability in December of 2004 and now it looks like he will not even have an answer until December of 2007 as I know they have at least 90 days before they have to give you their decision and then who knows how long before you would get any money.
I know that if he wins, the backpay check will be NICE but how do you survive until then. I have not been able to work because of taking care of him. Even if I did work what I would have to pay to hire someone to take care of him would take everything that I would make.
I just do not understand.
Sorry to be ranting on but some things just amaze me.

Thanks for listening{reading}.

Hi Nancy, I agree it is nothing short of ridiculous the financial situation people are forced to live with while waiting. I have not applied for SSD b/c I am still trying to find out if I am permanently disabled. However I am still waiting for workmans Comp to step forward and honor their obligation to me. We are will be on month 7 by next week....I have had to cash in an IRA, get a home equity loan, and I am selling off "stuff" from my house and dining room to finance the day to day costs of a teenager! I am hanging in there, but have not had nearly the wait you and so many others face. I am encouraged that your senator wrote on your behalf, perhaps it will help since they know someone in power is watching. Good luck, and for fast cash, you can't beat ebay and flea market sales to make some quick money and find good deals. It is the only way I can keep a teenager that grows out of everything clothed and happy! Hang in there!

From what i was told from many peaple waiting for there apeal[2cd hearing] the reason why it takes so long is the lack of judges. And everyone i talked to got denied the first time, but won there appeal[2cd time] and the pay is rectroactive, hope this was a little lnfo you can use.

Hi All,
I applied in Sept. 03, got hearing Feb. 06, I'm waiting for results, I called SS and they said it has been decided but has been sent to underwritters, any one know how long that takes??? We are dangling by a thread financially now.
