If my blood test shows 140 or below does it mean I could have a small portion of something with sugar? What snacks are good between meals . Suggest foods good to fill up on . I am tired of meat and eggs and salad all the time , thank you Jo

I wouldn't recommend it. 140 mg/dl is still pretty high. Anything over 110 mg/dl is above normal. If your bloodsugar is at 140 and you consume 30 grams of sugar (about 1 ounce), you can expect up to a 150 point rise in bloodsugar so you might end up as high as 290 afterward - not a good thing for your nervous system (this rise depends on your current insulin levels and production). Not only will the sugary snack make your bloodsugar go up, but it will also require more insulin be released into your bloodstream. High insulin levels are damaging to your arteries and can be nearly as detrimental as the high bloodsugar levels. This is why Type II (insulin resistant) diabetics which usually have high levels of circulating insulin are at much greater risk for heart disease. Are you Type I or Type II? An excellent book for diabetics is "Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution" He is a Type I diabetic himself. This site provides some good information also: http://wwww.survivediabetes.com

Nuts are a good low-carbohydrate choice. Cheese is another option. Vegetables dipped in Ranch dressing is a good snack. If you like them, pork rinds are a good low carbohydrate snack food.
