...currently in the hospital with what was thought to be "ITP". but is now being ruled out. Current symptoms include (1) decreased platelet count (23,000 this AM); (2) increased WBC count; (3) severe bruising on arms, legs and back (which are beginning to clear up); (4) history of falls x2 months; (5) low energy level; (6) decreased continence (not full incontinence at this time, but periods of); (7) vaginal bleeding. Patient is elderly and is newly diagnosed with diabetes and asthma. Leukemia, Cancer, ITP, and Hepatitis/HIV have been ruled out. Doctors are leaning towards a diagnosis of lupus (one doc said 30% chance of), even though rheumatoid testing has come back negative -

My thoughts: drug induced thrombocytopenia?? uremia (even though her kidneys are in rather good shape)?? Schonlein-henoch purpura: found online and have a very short explanation??

Any and all thoughts would be MOST APPRECIATED!!!

Princess,

We can't help you with a diagnosis -- only research. You've already done a good job of ruling "in" and "out" some specific diseases/conditions.

I suggest you set up a chart with possible diagnoses down the left side, and tests/results across the top. Uses Xs and checkmarks to show what does or does not apply. For the answers you don't know, look up the diseases or conditions to see what fits.

Then share your chart with the doctor(s) involved to see if that helps get you closer.

Best of luck.
