Hi there,
I have type 1 diabetes (9 years), last summer my arms and chest broke out in a rash. I visited my docter and he told me it was poison ivy. Considering I was no where near any poison ivy at any time I told him that was not possible. The rash disappeared by the end of the summer. However it has returned this week.
I don't know if its something to do with my diabetes, the heat or ???
Has anyone experienced or heard of something similiar in relation to diabetes.
I have good control, my recent hblac was 7.1
Thanks

Sounds like it could very well be yeast. Try using a vaginal yeast cream or an athletes foot cream on the areas to see if it clears up. Both of these types of products are the same and just labled different. Be sure to wash well with a mild soap and water and dry the area thoroughly. Apply some talc too once the rash clears up. If the yeast creams don't take care of it then see a dermatologist. I would be leary of my doc saying any rash was poison ivy without first asking if you had been any place where you might have come in contact with it. If he isn't even taking the time to ask the right questions about your rash what else is he misdiagnosing???? (just thinking outloud)

Just for your information, some people are so allergic to poison ivy that they can get it simply by being in the area when someone is burning it. Also, do you have a cat that goes outdoors? A friend of mine kept getting it from her cat.
I just made an apt. to see a dermatolgist, hopefully he will be able to shed some light on this for me.
No I dont have any pets, so no alergic reaction there.
All my outdoor activity has been in groups and no one else experienced any rash. But you never know.
I just hope this is not the begining of a diabetic complication.
Just to describe the type of rash further; the effected area gets blotchy red with a yellow/white center and a red blotch trails off following my veins on my arms.
Thanks for the comments.

Hi there... I am just wondering if you have a picture of the rash that you are getting? If so I would be interested in seeing it... My daughter has a very strange rash that comes and goes... Hers started around the second week of april... First time it lasted for 7 days... The second time 13 days... She has asthma... In jan. this year my parents came for a visit... My dad have type 2 diabetes... (my sister type 1) he left his Blood tester... (I don't know what you call it...LOL) Anyhow... We tested our sugars... Its was just for fun... I know that isn't supposed to be fun but... You know how kids are... Anyhow... Her sugar was 168 Not bad I thought... Although she is NOT diabetic... Anyway... The next morning she had a DR appt for a physical and I mentioned this to our Dr... He was concerend and checked her blood sugar on a different machine... It was 386... We went to the lab for a 3 hours test... And it came back in the high normal range... After I read your post I was just curious if your rash is anything like my daughters... That was alot to say at one time... LOL... Anyhow... Let me know... My email is sweet1ak@hotmail.com
Thanks for your time...
I just saw the dermatologist, he doesnt think it has anything to with my Diabetes (thankfully).
He took a bio of it; i wont have the results for a week or so.
The rash looks like standard poison ivy ;its just that I know I wasnt near any.
