Hi everyone. I think I have heel spurs. The heel on my left foot hurts almost constantly. Sometimes it's like a burning pain and others it's a sharp pain. It's worse when I get up to walk after sitting a while. I can barely step on the rug after getting out of the shower because the pressure of the rim of around the rug hurts my heel. I've tried many different kinds of shoes to see if it would help and it hasn't. Tylenol helps some with the pain, but not always.

Does anyone know what the standard form of treatment for heel spurs is? I've heard cortisone shots or surgery. I'm planning to call the podiatrist tomorrow to make an appointment.

Also, does anyone know how a bunion starts. On that same foot, I have a painful spot on the outside of my foot beside the bottom of my big toe. There is a small knot there, more so than on my other foot.

I've always had trouble with my feet. I'm flat footed, and as a child had to wear arch supports. I haven't worn them since I've been an adult though. Could this be the pain and not a bunion or heel spur? Thanks so much for any advice.

Definitely see a podiatrist, make a list of all your complaints so you don't miss any of them when you see the Dr. One thing to expect is x-rays at your visit. Heel spurs do not always mean shots or surgery - could mean physical therapy or orthotics. This also could all be tied into your flat footedness. So, see the Dr., if the immediate recommendation is surgery, get a second opinion! Make sure your Dr. is a member of the College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Let us know how it goes. -eko

Hi eko, thanks for the advice. I'm making an appointment tomorrow. I definately can't take this pain anymore. I'm walking around like a little old woman, and I'm not even 29 yet.

I know the pain of heel spurs. Orthotics have made a big difference for me. My job requires me to be on my feet. I was miserable. Mine are custom orthotics. Expensive, but well worth it.
