When was your baby's first real smile? My DS is 4wks so I doubt that he really smiled at me...but it sure looked like it!!

First baby was 3 weeks, second baby was 5 weeks. Sounds like you got your first toothless grin!! There is nothing sweeter in the whole world. I know most drs say the first smiles are just gas, but that's balony. I don't smile when I fart and neither do my little ones. (well, they might laugh afterwards) :) My youngest is now 6 months old and he has the sweetest smile. Take care!

My son is 2 months old and he first smiled around 6 weeks..he still doesn't smile much at all. I'm waiting for the day I get a big grin from him after picking him up from my parents house or my in-laws. That will bring a warm feeling to my heart!!

My ds smiled at 2 weeks. Maybe it was gas but it looked like a smile to me. I am not sure how old he was when he showed his gums with a smile.

Hey there. My DS smiled the morning of his 1 month "birthday" LOL. It was very intermittent from there for a few weeks, and then he started smiling pretty regularly around 6 weeks. I love those gummy grins! And the crinkling nose! SOOOOO adorable. Isn't it just the best!!!!
Cheers.
My baby smiled on the evening of his first month birthday!! How cute :p
I was feeding alex his night bottle, and he spat it out, looked up and me and smiled. It melted my heart :)

That's when my DS smiled...while eating. I was breastfeeding him and looked down at him. To my amazement he had his eyes open instead of being sleepy or falling asleep. So I said "Well hello Mr. Wide awake! Hello Mr. Beautiful!" and he smiled huge at me then stopped eating, spit "me" out and smiled again while looking at me! It was the sweetest thing! But he does sometimes smile while breastfeeding so that's why I Wasn't sure if this could be a real smile. But...one big difference is that these 2 smiles came right when I spoke to him. :)

My ds has been smiling since under 2 weeks old but I think it is him finding his facial muscles. He's certainly has found his leg and arm muscles. :)

My DD was 7 weeks old. She was on her changing mat and I was talking to her and she looked me right in the eye and smiled. My heart just went 'pop' and I fell in love with her all over again.
Since then we get lots and lots of smiles from her, especially when I've been at work all day and pick her up from Nursery. I wasn't looking forward to going back to work, but the smiles at the end of the day make it all worthwhile.
She also takes after her father who is annoyingly cheerful first thing in the morning. As soon as she wakes up she gives me a great big smile - it's enough to make even the grumpiest mummy cheerful.

my dd just turned 4 weeks old and has been giving smiles for a few days now. She does do the "gassy" smiles but lately shes been smiling where it just lights up her whole face! its wonderful! Shes done it mostly when breastfeeding but this morning i was changing her diaper and she just lit up when i started talking and playing with her. it definately makes everything worth while!!!
