hi there. I have two wisdom teeth both of which are partly showing through the gum. They can be painful, however not enough to have them out. for some reason they get very smelly despite me cleaning my teeth and using mouth wash 4-5 times a day! I'm so paraniod that I have bad breath it's stupid!I can't afford to go to the dentist at the moment as they always insist on taking ex-rays etc..and I end up with a bill for over £100. I have heard of food getting stuck but have no idea how this can happen as the gum is so tight and what would I do about it if it is getting stuck? Can it be solved without having them out?

does anyone else have a similar problem? Any suggestions? I've tried so any different types of month wash but still they smell - it doesn't make ay sense...:-(

Many thanks

Try using different types of floss to get back there and get the food particles out. Water picks work well for some people too. Rinsing is good, but you really need to get back there with a water pick and some floss to really clean the food out. Food can become trapped even when it appears the gum tissue is tight against the tooth.

I had a problem with food always getting stuck on the bottom 2 wisdom teeth, they were both impacted. I just recently had all 4 extracted. But last year was when I was suppose to get them out but I found out I was pregnant right before the surgury so of course I had to wait until after I had the baby to get them out...anyways the oral surgean told me to use an extra soft toothbrush and listerine to clean the bottom 2 until to keep them clean. That really helped. I would advise in the future getting them out before they cause pain.

Hi there your problem sounds similar to mine l have 3 partially erupted wisdoms l dont get too much bother 1 is only 3/4 through its been growing for nearly 5 yrs!! (l have at mo but thats a dif story l have a large hole in my tooth l have left for years as l am terrified of dental visits and have been in that much pain l had no choice but to go and lm now on antibiotics waiting for treatment) be very particular with your overall oral care use mouth washes listerines good brush your teeth after eating and floss if you can l have just been informed from my dentist that they dont take wisdoms out here now unless you have at least 2 infections per year!! I told her lo had impacted wisdoms and was advised to get mine out years ago but l didnt cos lm scared :( now shes telling me they dont take them out unless of repeat infections! At mo l could take lot out myself lol ps the smell could be rotting food or infection it really pays to pay attention to cleaning your teeth and using mouth washes. Despite my teeth been 'neglected' for over 6/7 yrs she said my 'oral care is outstanding' thats because l did everything possible to look after my teeth so l wouldnt have to go! LOL ps if moneys an issue lm sure they will let you pay in instalments have a word with them good luck sorry for rambling on :)
