I have been taking glucophage for approximately 2 months. I was previously taking glucotrol XL, but the numbers starting creeping up and my doctor switched me to glucophage. The numbers continued to rise, and he now has me on a combination of gluctrol XL and glucophage. The numbers have started to level out, but I feel like I'm walking through cement. I am also experiencing night sweats nearly every night. I should also mention that I had by-pass surgery in November of 2001.
I feel that I was doing very well overall until I started taking the glucophage. Has anybody else experienced this type of feeling with glucophage?

Hi Gary -
I'm on insulin, so I can't answer your questions about oral meds, but one thing struck me. You mentioned having night sweats every night. Could your sugar be going too low at night? Do you wake up and test? Night sweats can be a symptom of low BG.

I agree..you might be taking to much meds at supper time...leave out one and just take the glucophage at nite....or get up and test ..then you will know for sure

I've been taking glucophage for 6 months and have never had any of the symptoms you've described. Talk to your doctor about it.

I have been on glucophage for 8 months with no problems except the fact that I couldn't get my blood sugar under control. I am also now on a combo of glucophage xr and glucotrol and have a much better handle on my blood sugar levels.

Hi Gary
I was on Glucopage when I started then was changed to GLu.XL when I got the GI's from it. I was taking 2000 mg a day plus 8 mg of avandia plus 8 mgs of amaryl a day plus my heart medicine I to had bypass surg. and the highest my readings were 170 one time, normally they are in the normal range, but I get the night sweats, and I always feel like I'm getting a chest cold, and heartburn......... Recently I woke up at 3:00am with the shakes so I tested my suger and it was 65 I asked my doctor could I be over medicated and he said yes, took me off the GLU. and Amaryl and put me on Glocovance 500 mg, feel better, numbers are low. Personally I dont trust some of these Doctors dont answer alot of my questions like why is my friend only taking 2mgs of Glouc. and his numbers are 300? And not telling when I asked him does Contact Cold Med goof up my readings and never got an answer, but when the cold was gone the #'s came back down. Antibiodic and anti-histameans effect your readings. Hope this helps
