yesterday was my big day. She is having me do a ultrasound on the 18th and also she is having some blood drawn to check my tyroid and my hormone levels. She said my missing periods and some facial hair are a good indicator that I may have cysts. I asked her if there was something to help the hair and she said she can help with that and we will talk after the ultrasound.

I wish you well! I have been too scared to go. I told my doctor about the PCOS symptoms that I have researched and I have almost all of them. I also have a hard time loosing weight and am extremely obese. She prescirbed metformin and set up an ultrasound, but I was too scared to go. A friend of mine who has PCOS has inspired me to reschedule the appointment and I am going to go! Good luck, let us know how the test goes!

Hello all,

First of all, there is nothing to be scared about because this is a very managable problem. If you are getting a regular ultrasound and it says everything is okay, then make sure they give you an internal ultrasound because some people can not be detected on the outside. An internal ultrasound is less painfull than the yearly pap. If the pill doesn't work for regulating your period then try taking 10mg provera for 10 days to enduce your period. Make sure you have a period every 3 months to avoid any complications. As for the pain during periods, try 800mg ibuprophen 3 times daily (do not exceed this amount within a 24 hour period). I have tried many plans for weight loss but failed. The one which I have found that works is the "3 hour diet" by jorge cruise. If you are serious, then you would have to follow the plan to the tee and should start seeing results within 2 weeks. Good Luck

Yea that might work but I know that when I took provera it ruptured my cysts and made me hemorrhage for days. It was awful!! I dont know it might work for you, but I know a couple of other people with PCOS who had the same experience. Inducing your period every couple of months isnt getting to the root of the problem, what's causing the pcos. PCOS is caused by a resistance to insulin and too much male hormone in your system. It causes more problems than just not getting your period and unless you treat the cause, the other problems like the weight gain, unsightly hair and acne wont go away. Thats why it is best to discuss with your ob/gyn what options are best for you. It also helps to find a ob/gyn who specializes in PCOS because they are usually abreast on all the latest treatment and research. Good luck to you!!
