hi everybody! :)

does anybody have any good experiences losing weight and keeping it off with weight watchers? do you lose weight fast or slower compared to other diets? is it easier to manage to keep the weight off without gaining it back?

I am thinking about trying weight watchers.. i have tired of yo yo dieting and gaining more weight then i have lost each time

any feedback is appreciated!

I have tried a number if different dieting things, from Atkins to Weight Watchers to medically supervised liquid diets to diet pills. I have honestly lost on all of them, but tended to gain back...that is my fault though for being such a yo yo dieter. It has really screwed up my metabolism. I will say that of all the diets out there, Weight Watchers is probably the heathiest and most realistic one to stick to in the long run. Granted I got off of it, but I think it is because I expect such instant gratification from diets and set unrealistic goals. I am actually in the process of starting back to weight watchers and will be attending the meetings again next week. With Weight Watchers the weight does come off more slowly, but after such a long road with diet jumping, I have discovered that that really is not a bad thing. Fad diets like the liquid ones or even Atkins are very hard for most people to stick to for very long, but they tend to suck you in initially because you loose weight on them more quickly...this always appeals to the impatient personality that I am. The truth is though that unless you can follow it for life, the weight comes back on just as quickly plus some. Not that that is not just as true for Weight Watchers, I just think that Weight Watchers does not really stop you from enjoying all the foods you like, they just limit them.

I can honestly say that I probably felt the least 'pain' from going on Weight Watchers. You can still have those foods you enjoy, they just teach you what amounts are right for you. Again, it isn't as fast, but you really do lose it at a healthy rate, which is important for maintaining that weight loss. It really depends on your size, but my doctor always told me that healthy weight loss should not really go beyond 2-3 lbs a week. Be realistic with your goals and you'll find that you'll realistically keep the weightloss going...something I have finally come to terms with, I think. ;) Also, I do think the weight gain back is slower or less likely when you may go off for a day or 2, or even completely just because your body was getting smaller doses, but it was never completely deprived of any one particular thing that you may have treated it to in the past, like some of the fad diets do. I mean if you are on a liquid diet for a month and eat food for a day you can pratically gain 5 lbs back!

I would encourage you to do the meetings in person though versus the on-line thing Weight Watchers has, at least initially. That in person contact for me personally is more motivating than a computer screen, because you can't talk yourself out of things as much. JMO anyways.

Hello, I have been doing weight watchers for a year now. So far I've lost 42 pounds and have about 10-15 more to go. So obviously it's not a fast diet, but I do believe it truly works if you follow the plan! Also I agree with the other poster and you should definatly go to the meetings. The added support has definatly helped me out alot and I know I wouldn't have stuck with it this long with out it. Anyway, it may be slow, but it's something that I can stick to for life because I am not restricting myself too much and I don't have to totally cut out any food groups.

so how much in average do you lose per week? I am about 5'4 and weigh 135. my goal is 110-115 pounds

I think your weight goals are unrealistic. 110-115 at 5'4" is bordering on unhealthfully thin. 120-125 is closer to a reasonable weight for your height.

What size frame do you have?

I hate weight watchers..You need to go see a nutritionist who will work a plan that is just for your body. They are also one on one and you will get so much more support then from a meeting with tons of people. If you have insurance it may cover it or it will be like mine where they pay for a few sessions I pay 25.oo every two weeks and it works for me. Good luck and try it.:)
