I am in desparate need of guidance. My twelve year old son has enormous bowel movements. He is somewhat active, not over weight and tall. I feel I have hit my last straw because he is constantly having "accidents" where somehow he ends up with stained underwear. We have gone around every avenue except medical advice. It is so bad we have to keep a supply of plastic knives available to him so that he can cut it up before he flushes or he will clog the toilet every time.

I have never been on this board before and any advice that will help him feel more confident about himself in this area will be greatly appreciated.!!!

Signed, Mom wanting to help her son.

How often does he go? Does he drink plenty of fluids? Eat enough fruits and veggies? Maybe you should take him for a checkup. Sometimes it's tough to tell our sons how to have proper bowel habits and it's better coming from the doc. If he's staining his pants and it's too large for the toilet, he's probably holding it in too long. He needs to learn to use the bathroom when he feels the urge. My son doesn't like to go at school, so I know this is a problem for many kids. Good luck.
