Hello everyone! I was diagnosed as Borderline Diabetic by taking the fasting test overnight. I also discussed the possibility of having PCOS with my doctor because of weird periods, pains in my ovaries, the skin tags, dark skin, obesity, etc. She originally placed me on Metformin to help me with my sugar levels and when I told her about my ovary problems she told me that Metformin also treats PCOS. She scheduled an ultra sound and I canceled because I was too scared to go. I have a friend who has been trying to conceive for years and has had many problems, even tried fertility shots. I just found out that she was diagnosed as Diabetic and with PCOS. She said she is on Metformin and it helping her. I went back to the doctor and had my sugar levels checked again by the same test and everything was fine. I quit taking the metformin and now I definately think I should be back on it and go to the doc. I weigh 340 pounds and am only 19. My husband and I are not trying to get pregnant, but as many times as we haven't used protection, I should be. I also gained 70 pounds over this last year! My friend with these problems told me I should get the 3 hour fasting glucouse test because it is much more accurate. I have all the symptoms for PCOS, and have been having sugar problems once again before and after eating. My friend also told me that 93% of women with PCOS are diabetic, is this true? Can anyone offer me advice on how to go about being diagnosed and the diabetes side of it? I really need to loose weight and I am trying to get my health under control. I am obese, anemic, have high blood pressure, bipolar, and now maybe have PCOS and Diabetes. Any advice would be appreciated very much!

You should def get to the doctor ASAP! You should get baseline bloodwork done to accurately determine if there is a problem. There are lots of options out there for you, but you have to take the step and get to the doctors. If you think you have PCOS, go see an ob/gyn. He will most likely order bloodwork and an internal ultrasound.

Good for you!! And seriously, dont be complacent with this kind of stuff. If the OB/GYN you see isnt aggressive enough to really get to the root of the problem, try someone else. My first ob/gyn, when I told her that i hadnt gotten my period in two years, just said "ok, im putting you on the pill." I walked out of her office, and didnt come back. A year later I went to a different OB/GYN, and he ordered all kinds of tests and ultrasounds, diagnosed me with PCOS, and told me what the potential causes were and how to treat them. It is also helpful if you can find a ob/gyn that specializes in PCOS, because they are up on all of the latest research and stuff. And if you ever want to get pregnant, I would start researching reproductive endocrinologists in your area, because there is who most women with PCOS end up turning to when they want to get pregnant and are having trouble. Good luck to you!!
