Last week I went to the doctor because I had signs of herpes. I was hoping it was going to be just a bacterial infection but I found out today that I tested positive to herpes. I'm single and now am feeling I'll be single for the rest of my life. I'm depressed because I don't think anyone would ever want to get involved with someone who has herpes. At what point should I tell someone if I get into a relationship? How have others dealt with this?

I'm sorry to hear that your test came back positive. I deal with those feelings you described on a regular basis! It will help to read through some of the threads and to see that you are not alone. I also think that focusing on yourself and learning how to care for yourself to manage this virus is where your focus should be right now. I find I feel so much more in control (and have fewer outbreaks) when I am taking care of myself physically and emotionally. For me the emotional stuff is hard but it is a vicious cycle of worry, depression, outbreak, worry, depression, outbreak. So...all of that to say that this is an extremely common virus (in my town 1 in 3!) and it is manageable. Love is out there for you, but love yourself first! Ok that's enough of "self-help" mumbo jumbo! :)

Today5,
Sorry to hear about the results, but it's not the end of the world; do some research on Herpes, and you'll see that it's very very common. Terri Warren on WebMD (which has a partnership with this board) has a terrific 'Herpes Handbook'. Reading this will help you understand this common virus.
Do you know what type, 1 or 2? Do you know your status for both? Can you post your results?
