caliente 05-05-2006, 11:19 AM my absolute favorite is vo5! my hair has never been healthier. right now i'm using vo5 silky in champagne kiss. it makes my hair so soft and pretty, and it smells like watermelon jolly ranchers.
i also really like tresemme vitamin e.

MoonLight0 05-05-2006, 12:55 PM Dove Shampoo Therapy is great. I just tried it last week and it really moisturized my hair.
Garnier Fructis is also good- smells great.
Aussie- I've always loved their products. They smell yummy and moizturize well.
Pantene Pro-V- Good for occasional use. After a while it makes my hair dull.
I've heard a lot of good things about Tressemme... but I personally don't like it. It dries out my hair too much.

Garnier Fructis &
Brilliant brunette, but I like the conditioner better.
Pantene being on my worst list.
tUrRrRa 05-05-2006, 04:07 PM 1. Dove Therapy.. made my dry hair soft again!!
2. Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine
3. Pantene Pro V Restoratives for breakage
4. Aussie.. smells great
5. Graham Webb
VO5 didn't work for me either.. I bought the silky experiences one too but it didn't moisturize enough for me. I think it's better for normal or oily hair, but not good for my highlighted hair that needs extra conditioning and care.
Abbey32 05-07-2006, 09:22 AM Philosophy's Amazing Grace Conditioner is the only one I would say I "loved"...the shampoo is just ok.
Dove is nice.
I don't have any others I would say I love. I have to switch around or my hair gets dull. So, I've tried a lot. Haven't loved any yet.
missyou009 05-07-2006, 02:39 PM Garnier
Suave (Professionals)

Those are the types that I like.
I hate:

Dan_Sims 05-07-2006, 02:59 PM Herbal Essences by Clairol is very good.
You know whats a great shampoo.
The Thicker Fuller Hair shampoo.
It uses amazing incredients.
It will definitely add texture to your hair and make your hair grow out faster.
Nelka 05-07-2006, 08:17 PM Kerastase is the best! Its high quality and saved my hair.
Catt18 05-07-2006, 09:40 PM wow...I never knew how many people use grocery store brands ( i mean it's up to you what you use!) I personally cannot use that, just because I have such thick naturally drier hair. Plus after working in a salon and well, we did ph tests on grocery store brands I couldn't imagine! But my top 5 favs are.....
phyto
alterna (caviar!)
aveda
pureology
sebastian
I HATE KMS....JOICO...ect...but some people love it! it just doesn't work on my hair.
PollyAnn 05-07-2006, 09:41 PM 1) John Frieda (Brilliant Brunette) Shine Release Moisturizing Shampoo -
It's new- I started using this a month ago and won't use anything else now.
I also John Frieda (Brilliant Brunette) Light Relecting Moisturizing Conditioner and
John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze
*I color my hair often due to a lot of grey and this combination holds my color longer between touchups. And my hair now has a satin shine.
2) Redken - high end products that tame my unruly hair....and I'm worth it!
2) Infusium 23 - I have used this for years - always good products.
3) TRESemme
4) Garnier Fructis

maddelyn 05-08-2006, 08:55 AM ISO Hydracleanse shampoo and Daily Condition has been my fav for over 10 yrs. Good price, smells wonderful, and leaves your hair soft and full of body. A little hard to find, my stylist carries it, but you can also find it doing a web search.
Beth Ann 05-08-2006, 03:18 PM I don't even have a top five anymore. I found the only one I need! "So Sexy" by Victoria's Secret! Smells wonderful!!
Bell99 05-08-2006, 03:19 PM My neighbor is a hair dresser and flips out on Pantene and Garnier She said they are the worst!
She gets me Biolage and I love it.
She told me most store shampoos and conditioners leave build up and residue.
I noticed my hair wouldn't hold color because it had so much build up.
Once I switched it took great :)
shmeggo 05-08-2006, 06:18 PM I just bought Jason Natural Products Tall Grass shampoo because it doesn't contain any lauryl/laureth sulfates. I used to have to wash my hair every day because it's very thin and shows oil quickly but I can go every other day now.
I was using Pantene because I was addicted to the super sudsing action until I realized that drying out your scalp with harsh products is just like drying out your face: your skin overcompensates with even MORE oil.
I also love the entire Amplify line by Matrix...it works well and it's heavily fragranced so my hair smelled good ALL day (instead of just post shower).
tUrRrRa 05-08-2006, 07:26 PM My hairstylist also told me to watch out for certain drugstore shampoos/conditioners. She said a lot of the conditioners are waxy and the shampoos strip out color. However, she did say that Pantene Restoratives was okay to use. None of the moisturizing professional ones have given me as good results as Dove Therapy. I'd rather some of my highlights fade a little bit and have healthy hair. I was using expensive products that costed 4 times as much, and my hair got dry and I started getting split ends and breakage :(
saphire82 05-08-2006, 07:59 PM Ive used Paul mitchell super stong because I have long hair that gets split ends and dry easy, I love it but am waiting for those big bottles on same to come out again. I also like biolage because of the soft smell, but its not that great for detangling but I suppose I could use a detangling spray for that. I just made the switch from store brand to salon brand because I used to love the store brands because it makes your hair feel soft and easy to comb out but actually theyre bad chemicals that are just coating the hair to make it feel that way.
Infinitum 05-08-2006, 08:18 PM I have thick medium golden brunette hair and can't use store brand products for whatever reason. My hair is stubborn!!
My favorites:
Kerastase shampoo and conditioner
Crede--Japanese line--shampoo and conditioner
Ilovetocruise 05-08-2006, 09:32 PM I LOVE soy flower by Bath and Body works but they just discontinues it. I have to buy it on EBay. Smells so heavenly!
My hairdresser recommended Goldwell to hold the color and I like it, but no smell.
Bath and Body works new Aromatherapy Jasmine Vanilla is great too
Bell99 05-09-2006, 08:17 AM I Love their grapefruit lotion too!!!
davina 05-11-2006, 05:21 AM using the new loreal stuff at the moment, as advertised by the lovely beyonce, comes in a pink bottle and promises to add life to dull hair...def works for me. some herbal essences is ok but i find my hair gets so used to it. other than that i love pantene. i just makes my hair feel so clean.
maddelyn 05-11-2006, 10:26 AM Future Derm, I think the name of that shampoo line you're talking about is Pureology - it is great but pricey.
bouche 05-12-2006, 09:26 AM Matrix sleek look. All other shampoos can get sucked up in to the earth for all I care. When I first used it I wasn't all that impressed, but after every wash it just got better and better. By the time I had emptied my first bottle I was hooked :D If I ever find myself in a situation where I am extremely poor and can no longer afford Matrix, I would live on canned foods and spend my afternoons collecting bottles!
SophiaM 05-12-2006, 02:29 PM Future Derm, I think the name of that shampoo line you're talking about is Pureology - it is great but pricey.
Well, I tried Pureology and I don't think it's that great at all. I used the volumizing shampoo--it did an ok job but nothing spectacular, especially for the money and it smelled horrendous, just like the Old Spice men's cologne--yuck
jjwdean 05-12-2006, 03:07 PM Redkin and Redkin only for me. I'm using the Extreme line as of now, but I have tried almost all of them and love them all. It's important to switch your shampoo and conditioner every now and then to revive the hair...
I've used Aveda... love the smell, too botanical for my hair. My ends were dry and my roots were oily and it was just all a mess. I don't recommend it for blondes or other people with fine hair.
My sister loves Pureology.
Abbey32 05-13-2006, 09:53 PM I just started using a new one I like a lot. Burt's Bees grapefruit one. And the conditioner. Makes my hair shiney and it smells great! Walgreens had it. Makes my blonde highlights blonder....I guess from the lime oils and such.
Kathp 05-23-2006, 07:39 AM I don't know if it's a brand you can get in the US, but I love GUY KREMNER, especially the Detox range. It removes build up and leaves my hair so soft and shiny, which is hard to acheive on blonde hair.
Bev92 05-24-2006, 10:38 PM L'oreal Kids shampoo/cond. lol, it made my hair sooo soft and smooth. That was a couple years ago though, it made my god daughters hair gorgeous so I said, hey why not. I want to buy one myself. Another fave is thermasilk, but I currently use Herbal Essences...I'm in love with the smells!

GloBones 05-29-2006, 11:23 PM Nioxin-it's not just for balding men I've used it for years! I have fine thin hair and Nioxin keeps it managable.
I also just tried Ojon and loved it. It's too spendy for me though.

When my hair got dry a few yrs ago i started using pantene. It worked for a yr. Then it just seemed like it coated my hair.Garnier does that too after awhile. I constantly have to switch shampoos as well. I try to avoid any shampoo or conditioner with DIMETHICONE in it because it coats the hair and eventually you wind up with a thick buildup to the point where your hair feels coated and it's drier than it was before.Although might i suggest Pantene relaxed and natural Intensive moisturizing conditioner if your hair is fried from coloring and relaxing. It's not just for women of color it's for any woman wanting smooth hair.I also highly recommend the Pantene relaxed and natural wrap and set lotion spray if you have dry hair and you want it super straight.Use the conditioner after shampooing and let it sit on your hair for 2 minutes ( a hairdresser once told me it takes 2 minutes for conditioner to fully soak in)then rinse and towel dry really well.Spray the lotion really well on your hair, comb it through and let it sit for a few minutes then use a flat iron. Your hair will feel smooth and will stand up to the humidity.I'm still on a quest for that perfect shampoo especially now since im in my mid 20's and almost 50% gray since now its a bit dry.I heard olive oil treatments are the way to go so i will have to try it. Also, Johnson's baby shampoo is great as a mild cleanser.
Biore*Baby 06-20-2006, 02:56 PM I LOVE Avon Advanced Techniques. WORKS AS GOOD AS IF NOT BETTER THAN SALON STUFF! Ihave frizzy hair, and I've been using it in Straight and Sleek, and I have NO FLYAWAYS. Garnier Sleek and Shine doesn't work, Pantene doesn't work, but this stuff does. You'd be crazy not to try it.
leslie0784 06-24-2006, 02:09 AM Pureology is the best I've ever tried!! The past year I've been brunette, bleached blonde, red head, brunette, and now going back blonde. It has saved my hair from falling out;) My hair has never felt softer or so healthy. It's even helped it grow quicker.
Pantene is my worst. I worked in salon and we found out that even though it makes your hair feel nice, it puts a coat around the each hair shaft and won't allow any extra moisture through,so in the long run it makes your hair much more damaged.
desertdweller 06-24-2006, 01:18 PM None of the moisturizing professional ones have given me as good results as Dove Therapy. I'd rather some of my highlights fade a little bit and have healthy hair. I was using expensive products that costed 4 times as much, and my hair got dry and I started getting split ends and breakage :(
Then you were using the wrong professional products. There is no way the proper professional product would dry your hair out .
Like it has been stated before , most of the store bought products will eventually build up on your hair and cause uneven lightening or deposit of color during a chemicle process. It can also cause perms to process unevenly or loosen quickly. How bad this build up can get depends on the length of your hair, it's porosity, and how often you get it cut.
There is no BEST type of shampoo for everyone since hair types vary, porosity varys and how people want their hair to look ( smooth, full, curly) varies also.
