I have been constipated for over a week, my doc said that I could use a mild stool softener while breast feeding, I am scared it might give her the runs though, It sais you could take up to 6 a day, I have only taken one, My tummy hurts though and nothing is working, I just don't want it to cause the baby issues.
any advice?

Make sure you are getting lots and lots of fluids!!!. Dehydration can constipate you while breastfeeding. I think one or two should not be a problem but I would try a few mugs of warm lemon water that usually helps.

Thanks, I know I am not getting enough fluid, I am really bad about that. I will try that. I am drinking more water now.

Stool softeners are safe. I had to take some in the first few weeks after Joshua's birth to keep me going and it didn't affect his tummy at all. Just take them as directed and as shelliam said drink plenty of fluids, mainly water. I know it's hard to suck down glass after glass of water, but it really does help. Take care!!
