How long can a person have genital herpes with no symptoms? I dont kniw yet if I have herpes or not im waiting for my appointment but I was wondering.I mean could I contract herpes say 15 years ago NEVER have any symptoms then 15 yrs after contracting herpes suddenly have a symptom(s) ?? This seem pretty long to me

Supposedly you can...something could have triggered it, maybe an illness or stress. I think people can go without ever knowing it...that's why I keep saying that just because someone thinks they are all fine and clean and wouldn't want to get involved with something that has herpes...needs to have themselves tested because they certainly can have it and not even know it so they need to come down off their high horses! My BF didn't have any idea he had herpes because he didn't recognize the symptoms of it....just thought it was an irritation from friction. I asked him if I would have had herpes before we got together would he have still wanted a relationship with me...I mean since he had no idea he had herpes...and he said probably not but he couldn't be for sure because that situation had never come up for him before but certainly he would have had to think about it. :confused:

well I am not saying I could have never contracted herpes I just didnt know if I could have contracted herpes that long ago and never had any symptoms or outbreaks and nobody ever comming to me (past b/f's)complaining of any problems with themselves.Of course one of the reason I wanted to know was because it could possibly answer if my husband of all these yrs and after 5 kids has cheated on me or not chances are regardless if it herpes or some other STD he would never tell me the truth.I know it wouldnt be the end of the world to have herpes but my world would be pretty changed if I found out my husband has cheated on me and its not even that I dont trust him its just having something like this on my vagina makes me think that is a possibility. so all i can do is wait for the appointment :rolleyes:

That's what I'm say...I'm saying that you can have gotten herpes years ago and never had a symptom of it or never given it to anyone. I'm saying that the herpes sits there dormant and something could have made it active, such as an illness or stress or nothing at all.
