Please help!!! My mom as been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Had surgery a year ago. Took out a lobe. Now the cancer is back on the other lung. Her oncologist is not going to treat her yet. Is this crazy???? She said there is no cure. Getting rid of the spot will only make a scan appear good. She said my mom feels good so why make her sick with chemo. I am sick. I feel like my life is ending. I can't live without my mom. I need some advice on what to do? We live in Omaha Nebraska. Our medical center and her dr. are supposed to be the best. Shouldn't they treat her now before it spreads?

Kim003, I could not or would not accept that from my oncologist. If your Mom wants immediate treatment she should get it. I just had my third 'clean' scan, fully aware the SCLC, though it has shrunk smaller than ever, is still there and could start growing again, any day. NSCLC doesn't grow as fast but I have a hard time with the waiting advice. I would still fight it with everything I have. I would want to be the one deciding when I want to give up, not any doctor. That is just the way I feel. Please let us know what is decided. In the meantime prayers are coming your way from Ky., Pat

Pat,

Thank you for your advice. I did send away for some information from cancer treatment centers. Do you know anything about this facility? I am also in the process of finding a second opinion in Omaha. Tomorrow is my mom and dad's 40 wedding anniversary. Next week our family is going to Las Vegas to celebrate. When we come back from Las Vegas, I am going to try to talk her into getting a second opinion. I am glad to hear that you have had three clean scans. That is awesome. It is good to know that there is help with this terrible disease. I have read a lot of messages on this board, and am praying for everyone!!!

Kim003, I have read quite a bit about the cancer treatment centers that are scattered across the country and was so impressed with the facts I read. I had decided if I get to the point that the local facilities cannot do any more for me I am going to the one in the midwest. I pray you and your family have a great time next week and make lots of precious memories. Prayers from Ky., Pat
