The warning signs of Diabetes are as follows:

Frequent thrist
Frequent urination
Feeling hungry even after a meal
Possible weight loss
Fatigue
Abdominal pain
Nausea
and/or Vomiting

Other possible symptoms are as follows:
Blurry vision
Slow healing sores
Cramps on numbness in the legs, feet or fingers
Dry mouth
Nervousness
and/or Dry, itchy skin

If you have any of these symptoms, especially if you have a blood relative or relatives who have or had diabetes, arrange with your doctor for a minimum 8 hour fasting blood test to test your blood glucose (sugar) level. If the reading is 126 or higher and you have symptoms, especially the first set of symptoms, you most likely have developed diabetes or your doctor may wish to give you further testing to determine if you have diabetes.

About 90% of diabetics are Type II (Type 2) and do not, at least at first, need to take insulin. Rather a Type 2 takes medication because that type of diabetes is usually insulin resistant. The section of your pancreas that produces insulin still produces it, but the insulin no longer works or does not work as well as it should.

Hi Rox, I'll add to that given by rox:
Painful feet usually come before numb feet.
Loss of weight despite heavy eating.
Just plain feel bad about an hour after eating...flu-like syptoms.
Don't guess. Find a diabetic friend that has a glucose meter, or have a family doc check your blood glucose level. Better yet; go to your drug store and buy some urine test strips and check for sugar and ketones in your urine. Keep them on hand because early in the affliction, blood sugar can bounce up and down. Pray hard that you don't have it. Too many people don't appreciate how serious it really is. God bless, Oldguy

I am 20 years old and i have a father, and grandmother with diabetes. I have a terrible thirst for sugar and i am aware that i have an unhealthy intake of sugar daily. Its almost like sugar is my drug. I was wondering if high sugar intake can lead to diabetes and what types of symptoms would i have? I have been feeling awfully sick lately with abdominal cramps and a really irritating feeling after i pee. Am i too young to have diabetes? Please reply.
