I am so nervous right now .while I am going to be so sick and feel so awful beyond comphrension if test positive it on other hand will be a relief . I also did read the thread where the one person had a negative and then later on a positive . what are odds of this happening when used the IgG test ? I do not think I go through this all again .love to hear all feedback from all that wish to share . thanks so much . this board and you have meant so much to me with your postings . and very informative .also can anyone tell me if test shows when may have contracted this if is positive

Sometimes you can expect them to be a little less than sensitive. You might get the blunt; you're positive, here's a prescription, see-ya-later-bye.
Make sure you get hard copies of your results before leaving, this way you can post your actual results if you have questions.
The two key issues with proper bloodtesting for herpes is getting the right test, an IgG type specific test which sounds like you did, and waiting at least 12-16 weeks post possible exposure. Waiting less time is how you'll hear of people first being negative then testing positive later. In some people it can still take longer than 4 months, every 'body' is different.
You might be bombard with information while in the office, which can be overwhelming if he/she is giving you bad news. So, many taking a pen and paper and writing some stuff down if that will help.

thanks over21. you have been so helpful and everyone else also of course . I missed my apointment today to get results but am going in morning . I will post as soon as can when return . I am not looking forward to the news if bad , but I want and need to know . I am also sure it will not be the best if they are bad . prob get these looks from other staff if they may know . I do want info and will write it down , but also I do know that the doc do not know everything . I will keep posting here and researching on my own . I really did not want to go to my reg gyno but did not have the possible choices others may have had . oh well . thanks again

Hi 4EverScared,
I totally understand how you didn't want to go to your regular gyno; I didn't want to either, but I had to since the clinic in my area refused me antivirals because I didn't have actual blisters (Long story). Anyway, I think it's probably for the best that your regular gyno knows because it is ALWAYS best that your doc knows everything little bit about your medical history. Although herpes has not been implicated in cancer or anything like that, it still affects the immune system and the nervous system, and it is a part of your life. Also, herpes (or having any STD for that matter) can put you at an increased risk for HIV. I am NOT trying to scare you and I apologize if I'm coming off that way, I'm just trying to make the point that it is good to be open with your doctor. I recently went to see a new doctor for an allergy med presciption, and I don't have a Primary Care Physician, so I went to the ONLY doctor that accepts my insurance in my area. This doctor was a JOKE. He cared NOTHING about my medical history even when I offered the information and just asked me what prescription I needed written. So I guess my point is to see a GOOD doctor that you trust and that cares if you are financially able to. :-) I'm totally rambling on, but I just want to wish you the best of luck at your appointment. The best thing to do is educate yourself all that you can (which it seems like you are) and go from there. I was really getting down on myself last week about the whole herpes thing, but I'm starting to look up again, because I've just realized that there are SO many people out there that are suffering more than I am. That's not to say that herpes isn't a stressful and hard to deal with issue, but just that I have to keep things in perspective. I hope that you can do the same, and I hope that you will feel free to come to these boards whenever you need support.
Take care,
Katalina

My doctor was great when I went, & I was soooo embarrassed. She says she sees more herpes now than ever, especially with young kids. Doctors have seen it all, believe me. Even tho my blood tests were negative, I still don't feel "right". I'm afraid I may have been tested too soon or this has just taken too much of a psych toll on my body.
