I just bought some, but haven't tried it yet. The Dr told me to try it since I didn't take the Trazadone he wanted me to take. I have Liver problems and was scared to take it.
I sure hope this Melatonin does some good.

I have sleep problems also and do not want to rely on prescribed meds so I too went and bought melatonin a while ago and tried it for about 3 or 4 days and now went right off it as it gave me a bad headache the next day and I gained about 8lbs in 3 days not even eating any different then I usally do. Iam trying to lose weight not gain it! Iam up between 5 and 6am every morning. I go all day as I have a daycare. I go for an hour walk after dinner at night and get to bed around 10 but it is close to 2am if not later before I fall asleep. I usally get up around midnight or so if I stll cant fall asleep and then stay up and read or try to do something relaxing and go to bed an hour later but I still am awake till all hours. I hate to take sleeping pills as they make me groggy the next day and they slow down your metabolism. But I also find when I dont get a good nights sleep that also inhibits the weight loss. I do not eat after 6pm and dont smoke or drink any caffeine so Iam stuck as too why I can not sleep at night. Iam so fed up with this.

I take melatonin on occasion and it is the best sleep aid for me. Even though I have vivid nightmares and sleep aids make them worse, melatonin helps me get to sleep and wake up early feeling refreshed. I take 9mg a night, maybe a little too much for just starting out. The downside is that you became "immune" to a small dose and have to take more just to sleep. I had to increase the dosage, because I felt anxious and couldn't sleep with just 3-6mg.

OMG!! 9mg sounds like it would put a horse down! LOL I take it nightly, but only 2 mg, though I have taken 3mg on occassion. It is wonderful. I don't feel hung over the next day like with most sleep aides. My 4 year old also takes it nightly. He has autism and severe problems with sleep. I crush 1mg and give it to him at bedtime, he's out in 20 to 30 minutes. His drs support this 100%, so that should tell you how completely safe it is. Take care!

It doesn't do anything at all for me.

I've taken melatonin for three "stretches" over the years. Each time it worked with no side effects at first, but the effect wore off quickly. It is supposed to help re-set your body clock. I don't need it to help fall asleep. I do that within seconds. But I can't seem to stay asleep. I've read that taking it intermittantly might work better than taking it every night.
