I found out that I've had it since January. (From the beginning of Jan to the end of March, I had 5 outbreaks..yes 5 in 3 months..now on daily Valtrex..started 1 month ago...outbreak free so far :) ) However, I contracted it about 2yrs ago. I had a lesion on my butt and thought it was a spider bite and dismissed it. Silly me. Now I'm in a new relationship and have told him about me having hsv. We stopped having sex about two months ago for religious reasons, however we had been having unprotected sex from August until January. He hasn't had any signs yet but we're still praying.
Have a couple of questions:
1. has anyone had any adverse side effects after taking daily Valtrex for prolonged periods of time?
2. For those who were in relationships with partners that were infected and you had an outbreak after splitting up: did you have a minor outbreak while with them? i was reading someone's and it seemed as if it just appeared out of the blue but i thought there's an outbreak first then it's dormant for a long period of time until the reoccurances begin.
3. and if both partners have hsv, why cant it be spread to other places on each others bodies? I read someone saying that it cant be transmitted if the person already has it.
Just some random questions that i wanted answered by some people who could relate. For anyone who's depressed about this don't be. Life goes on. I contrated hsv from a man living a double life (a bisexual man trying to life the "normal man & woman life". God spared me. I could have contracted HIV instead. I'm thankful for his grace and thankful that I'm healthy enough to be here to tell my story.

Many people have mild OBs such as you say you has a sore and thought it was a spider bite. Probably for most people that think that they got herpes from someone being unfaithful(they aoutomatically assume their spouse of many years was unfaithful) really have had herpes for a long time and dismissed their mild symptoms as yeast infections or bladder infections or just got raw from rough sex, razor burn...etc. Then when they actually have some sores they automatically assume they just got it. Noone knows why it sits there and then all of a sudden causes major OBs but it does. It could be that they got run down or they were sick with the flu or something else and your immune system is compromised allowing herpes to "do it's thing".
